WWE WrestleMania 39 was one of the biggest pro wrestling event of 2023 which two-night event which took place on April 1, 2023, and April 2, 2023, taking place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA, near Hollywood.
Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes match for Undisputed WWE Universal Championship headlined night 2 on April 2. Undisputed Tag Team Championship match between The Usos and Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn was the main event of night 1 on April 1.

- This is the 39th Annual WrestleMania event, the biggest event of the year by WWE taking place every year since 1985.
- Earlier, Sofi Stadium was supposed to host WrestleMania 37. Due to COVID-19 Pandemic restrictions in California, WWE shifted WrestleMania 37 to Tampa, and SoFi stadium instead got WrestleMania 39.
- The event followed the trend of being a two-nights event which has been the case for all WrestleMania events since 2020.
- Miz is the host of the show. Snoop Dogg later joined as the co-host and “dogfather” of WrestleMania 39.
- Pop Signer Becky G performed “America The Beautiful” on Night 1 to this show.
- Country Singer Jimmie Allen performed “America The Beautiful” on Night 2.

WrestleMania 39 Night 1 Card(April 1)
Austin Theory(c) vs John Cena- WWE United States Championship
John Cena was announced to appear on RAW March 6, 2023 episode. WWE United States Champion Austin Theory announced that he would confront Cena, and so he did. Cena initially denied but later accepted the challenge to face Theory at WrestleMania 39 when he said Cena was disrespecting fans by declining the challenge. WWE announced that this match would open night 1 of the event. Theory cut a promo on WWE RAW March 27 episode where he said he was not facing Cena for the fans but for himself, and that he was gonna make Cena believe that he is the next superstar.

The Street Profits vs Alpha Academy vs The Viking Raiders vs Braun Strowman & Ricochet – Men’s Showcase Tag Team Match
WWE announced a men’s showcase 4-way tag team match for WrestleMania 39. The Street Profits(Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins), Alpha Academy(Chad Gable & Otis), The Viking Raiders(Erik & Ivar) and Braun Strowman & Ricochet were announced for the match. These teams were involved in a 8-man tag team match on RAW March 27 episode where Strowman, Ricochet & The Street Profits defeated The Viking Raiders and Alpha Academy. Ricochet also defeated Erik, Chad Gable and Montez Ford in a fatal 4-way match on March 31 episode of SmackDown.

Seth Rollins vs Logan Paul
Logan Paul eliminated Seth Rollins from the men’s Royal Rumble match. Seth started talking trash about Logan on WWE programming and on online interviews and he returned to cost him US title match at Elimination Chamber. Rollins and Logan came face-to-face at on RAW March 6 episode for a promo segment where they agreed to a match at WrestleMania. Later, Logan caught Seth with a big punch. Logan Paul brought his ImPaulsive podcast on March 20 RAW episode which was interrupted by Rollins. The segment turned into a brawl and Logan was once again able to catch Rollins with a punch.

Becky Lynch, Trish Stratus & Lita vs Damage CTRL(Bayley, Iyo Sky & Dakota Kai)
Becky Lynch was feuding with Damage CTRL – Bayley, Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky – since the trio made their first appearance at SummerSlam 2022. Becky was part of Team Bianca at WarGames match at Survivor Series 2022 to beat Team Damage CTRL. Becky and Bayley beat each other in singles matches on RAW before a steel cage match was set between them for RAW 30th anniversary episode. However, Damage CTRL attacked Becky before the match to not allow the match to take place. The match was rescheduled two weeks later on RAW where Lita came to deal with Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky.
After Kai and Sky were dealt with, Becky was able to win the trilogy fight against Bayley. Bayley confronted Becky and Lita the following week. Becky and Lita then challenged Women’s Tag Team Champions Kai & Sky for their titles. Trish Stratus countered Bayley during the title match, allowing Becky and Lita to win the Women’s Tag Team Champions. Next week, Damage CTRL confronted the trio of Becky, Lita and Trish, who challenged them for a trios match at WrestleMania 39.

Rey Mysterio vs Dominik Mysterio
Rey Mysterio and Dominik were feuding with Judgment Day as the stable tried to recruit Dominik to their ranks. Edge and Rey beat Finn Balor and Damian Priest at Clash at The Castle 2022 event. After the match, Dominik hit Edge with a spear and joined Judgment Day. As part of the group, Dominik started insulting and torturing his father, often interfering in his matches. Dominik often called Rey a deadbeat dad and loser while also ridiculing his legendary career. Rey tried to bring his son back to the good side but maintained that he would not lay his hands on his son. When Judgment Day refused to leave him alone, Rey contemplated retirement, only for Triple H to shift him to SmackDown.
Dominik attacked Rey backstage before the 2023 men’s Royal Rumble match and blocked him from entering the match. Women’s Royal Rumble Winner Rhea Ripley started making her trips to SmackDown as she started her storyline with Charlotte Flair. Dominik started making trips to SmackDown along side Rhea and started insulting Rey again. He also started calling out Rey Mysterio for a match at WrestleMania. On March 24 episode of SmackDown, Dominik insulted his mother and Rey’s wife and called her a dead beat mom and a loser. Rey attacked Dominik after this and accepted Dominik challenge to face him at WrestleMania 39. Rey Mysterio was inducted to WWE Hall of Fame as part of Class of 2023. Dominik was present at the ceremony on March 31, but left just after Rey made his entrance. Responding to this, Rey promised the crowd that he would take care of business at WrestleMania.

Charlotte Flair(c) vs Rhea Ripley – WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship
Rhea Ripley won the women’s Royal Rumble 2023. On January 30, 2023, RAW episode, Rhea announced that she would challenge Charlotte Flair for SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 39, recalling how Flair defeated her at WrestleMania 36 when Flair won the Rumble and defeated Rhea for NXT Championship that year. This was the first women’s rematch at WrestleMania. Flair and Rhea continued to cut promos against each other. Flair kept saying that Rhea was once again not ready to face her, while Rhea said she would prove that she is the biggest women’s star in WWE. They got involved in a big brawl on March 17 episode of SmackDown.

The Miz vs Pat McAfee
The Miz was the host of WrestleMania 39. He was in the ring before the main event match on night 1 with co-host Snoop Dogg. After The Miz announced an attendance of 80,497 on night 1, Snoop Dogg said the only thing that can top this was Miz having a match. Miz claimed that he had issued an open challenge on social media but no one had responded to it. Pat McAfee made his return to WWE for the first time since Royal Rumble to asked Miz to face him right away. Even as The Miz did not agree, Snoop Dogg made the match official to take place.

The Usos(Jimmy & Jey Uso)(c) vs Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens – Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have had a storied friendship and rivalry over the course of their long wrestling career. Zayn slowly made his place in the Bloodline. Kevin Owens returned before Survivor Series to join Drew McIntyre and The Brawling Brutes in WarGames match against The Bloodline. Sami hits Owens with a low blow and a Helluva kick to assist in the win for Bloodline in the WarGames match. In the aftermath, Owens said he did not need to anything to do with Sami. John Cena and Owens defeated Sami and Universal Champion Roman Reigns in a tag team match at December 30 SmackDown.
Roman was upset at Sami for getting pinned. Jey Usos came to Sami’s defense at the Tribal Court on RAW 30th Anniversary episode. At Royal Rumble, Kevin Owens unsuccessfully challenged Roman Reigns for Universal Championship. After the match, The Bloodline was beating up Owens brutally but Sami was conflicted on handing up a brutal punishment to his former best friend. He instead turned on Roman by hitting him with a chair shot. The Bloodline, except Jey, beat up Sami. Jey Uso distanced himself from the Bloodline after this. Roman tasked Jimmy to bring Jey back to The Bloodline fold. Jey ultimately chose family over friendship.
Sami unsuccessfully challenged Roman for Universal title at Elimination Chamber. Owens saved Sami from a post-match attack. Later, Sami tried to get Owens onboard in his plan to take down The Bloodline. But, Owens denied having anything to do with Sami. On SmackDown March 17, Cody Rhodes tried to get them together only for Owens to ask Sami why he wants to be a friend with someone who did not want it. Sami then said its because he and Owens are not just friends but brothers. Owens later save Sami from an attack from the Usos and Solo Sikoa before finally reuniting with him. The following week on RAW, Owens and Sami challenged The Usos for Undisputed Tag Team Championship. Jey Uso accepted the challenge on the pretext that they would take care of Sami Zayn and KO problem at once.

WrestleMania 39 Night 2 Card(April 1)
Brock Lesnar vs Omos
After Brock Lesnar hit Bobby Lashley with a low blow during his DQ loss at Elimination Chamber 2023, Lashley’s former manager MVP challenged him to face Omos at WrestleMania. Lesnar appeared on RAW episode of February 27, 2023 and accepted the challenge while also dropping MVP with an F5. Omos and Lesnar came face-to-face on RAW March 13 episode where Omos threw Lesnar out of the ring. on March 27 episode of RAW, Omos and Lesnar were supposed to take part in a weigh-in segment. Omos weighed at 410 lbs. Lesnar, however, came out and attacked Omos with the weighing scale itself. Omos recovered and forced Lesnar to retreat.

Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez vs Shotzi & Natalya vs Ronda Rousey & Shanya Baszler vs Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville – Women’s Showcase Tag Team Match
WWE announced a women’s showcase 4-way tag team match for WrestleMania. Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez qualified for this match by beating Emma & Tegan Nox on SmackDown March 17 episode. Shotzi and Natalya qualified by beating Xia Li & Lacey Evans on SmackDown March 24 episode. Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler announced themselves for the match as they have earlier beaten both the teams qualified for the match. Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville defeated Candice LeRae and Mia Yim to qualify for this match on RAW March 27 episode.

Gunther(c) vs Drew McIntyre vs Sheamus – WWE Intercontinental Championship
On SmackDown March 3, 2023 episode, Drew McIntyre expressed his desire to challenge for Intercontinental Championship. Sheamus interrupted him and said Drew stabbed him in the back as he knew Sheamus was after the title. LA Knight, Kofi Kingston and Karrion Kross also came out to stake their claims for the title. WWE announced a 5-way match to determine the challenger for WrestleMania.
Drew & Sheamus pinned Kross and Knight at the same time and both were declared the winners. They face off in a singles match next week which ended in a double disqualification after Imperium attacked them. Adam Pearce then told Gunther that he had to face both Sheamus & Drew at WrestleMania 39. Drew & Sheamus teamed up reluctantantly to beat Imperium’s Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci on March 31 episode of RAW.

Bianca Belair(c) vs Asuka – WWE RAW Women’s Championship
WWE decided to find the contender for Bianca Belair and RAW Women’s Championship through an Elimination Chamber match. Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Asuka, Carmella, Natalya, and Nikki Cross clashed inside Elimination Chamber. Asuka won the said match at Elimiation Chamber 2023 event to set up a showdown with Bianca.

Edge vs “Demon” Finn Balor – Hell in a Cell Match
Edge formed Judgment Day faction after WrestleMania 38 and onboarded Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley. He asked Finn Balor to join the group but he kept refusing. Balor finally joined in the group on June 6, 2022 episode of RAW, but the group itself turned on Edge and beat him up. Edge only returned to WWE after this at SummerSlam 2022 where he helped Rey Mysterio and Dominik beat Judgment Day. Edge then teamed up with Rey to beat Judgment Day at Clash at the Castle 2023. Balor and Edge clashed in an “I Quit” match at Extreme Rules where Edge was forced to say “I Quit” after Rhea Ripley threatened to hit con-chair-to on Beth Pheonix. Edge was beaten up after the match.
Edge then returned at Royal Rumble 2023 to resume his rivalry with Judgement Day while also being able to eliminate Priest and Balor from the match. Edge and Beth Pheonix defeated Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley at Elimination Chamber in a mixed tag team match. Balor then cost Edge United States Championship match against Austin Theory on RAW February 20 episode. The following week, Balor challenged Edge for a match at WrestleMania. Edge accepted the challenge but added that the match could only be inside Hell in a Cell. Balor replied that Hell couldn’t control his demons. On March 20 episode of RAW, Edge asked Balor to bring back The Demon to face him at WrestleMania. The following week, Balor replied that Demon always resided with him and confirmed that The Demon would indeed be at WrestleMania 39.

Roman Reigns(c) vs Cody Rhodes – Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
Cody Rhodes won the men’s Royal Rumble 2023 which earned him the chance to challenge Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. On January 31 episode of RAW, Cody Rhodes said he respect Roman Reigns as a champion but he is here to finish his story at WrestleMania and become the first Rhodes to become the WWE World Champion. Cody was interrupted by Paul Heyman the following week. Heyman said Cody’s father Dusty told him that Cody was his favorite son, but Roman Reigns is the son he always wanted. An enraged Cody then told Heyman that he made this rivalry personal.
Cody also encouraged Sami Zayn to beat Roman before their match at Elimination Chamber. Heyman once again interrupted Cody on February 20 RAW where he tried to tell Cody that his WrestleMania dream could become his biggest nightmare due to all the compulsions and duties that being a champion bring in. Roman and Cody came face-to-face for the first time on March 3 episode of SmackDown. Roman credited Dusty for seeing the star in him before anyone else. Roman tried to get under Cody’s skin by saying that if Dusty had not teach him something, then he would teach it at WrestleMania 39. Cody replied that Roman can play his mind games but he did not have any other option than winning at WrestleMania.
On March 6 episode of RAW, Cody made the save on Sami Zayn when he was beaten up by The Usos and Solo Sikoa. On the following Smackdown, Cody answered a call out by the Usos and was joined by Sami Zayn in a brawl. Roman and Cody faced off once again on RAW March 20 episode. Roman told Cody that he is not cut out to finish his story and his dreams would shatter when he would wake up on April 3. Cody replied that The Bloodline is with him only because he is the Universal Champion, and The Usos, Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman would leave him if he loses his title. He also told Solo Sikoa that he was not ready to be in WWE.
Cody defeated Solo on RAW March 27 episode, which was first pinfall loss for Solo on the main roster. On March 31 SmackDown, Cody claimed that he is the successor of Roman Reigns for Universal Championship. Roman came out and asked Cody to acknowledge him. Cody and Roman close the final SmackDown before WrestleMania with a staredown.
