John Cena vs Austin Theory United States Championship WWE WrestleMania 39

John Cena has his match set for WWE WrestleMania 39 event as he will face Austin Theory for WWE United States Championship.

John Cena returned to Monday Night RAW episode of March 6, 2023, in his hometown Boston, MA. United States Champ Austin Theory quickly interrupted him as he told us last week. Theory said as a Cena fan, he wanted to gift him with a match for the title at WrestleMania 39.

Cena replied that Theory had not earned the right to gift him a match yet. He continued by saying that while he may have become a champion, fans do not believe he is a superstar. Cena praised Theory for his mic skills, work rate, and athleticism and concluded that he has everything that WWE wants in its star. But, Cena and the fans do not believe in Theory yet because Theory himself do not believe in himself.

Cena declined the title shot at WrestleMania. But, Theory was not taking no for an answer and referenced Cena’s motto of never giving up. He also said that Cena is not respecting fans by declining a match at WrestleMania. Cena then told him that he declined the match for Theory’s sake as he was in a lose-lose situation regardless of winning or losing to Cena at WrestleMania.

However, since Theory wanted it, Cena accepted facing him at WrestleMania 39 but told him again that he was not ready to face him in his mind, heart or gut. WWE later confirmed Austin Theory vs John Cena match for WWE United States Championship via their website.

This will be Cena’s first match since SummerSlam 2021, where he failed to beat Roman Reigns for Universal Championship. The 16-time World Champion did not appear at WrestleMania 37 and 38 after continuously appearing on the Showcase of Immortals every year since 2003.

For Austin Theory, this will be just his third WrestleMania match. At his WrestleMania debut at WrestleMania 36, he teamed up with Angel Garza to challenge The Street Profits for RAW Tag Team Championship. His second match at the Biggest Stage of Them All came last year when he was a handpicked opponent by Vince McMahon to face Pat McAfee.
