WWE Elimination Chamber 2023 event took place on February 18, 2023. The event took place at Bell Center in Montreal, Canada. This was the 13th event in the Elimination Chamber series.

The event featured two Elimination Chamber matches – one for United States Championship, and the second for Contender for RAW Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania 39. Roman Reigns defended Universal Championship against Sami Zayn in the main event.

  • This is the second Elimination Chamber event to take place outside the United States after the 2022 event in Saudi Arabia.
  • This is the first Elimination Chamber event to take place in Canada.
  • Premium Hospitality Packages went on sale on October 28, 2022. General Tickets Sale started on November 18, 2022.
  • Official Attendance – 17,271
  • As per media figures, WWE had sold 14,160 out of 14,253 tickets for this event.
  • Ariel Helwani narrated a special video package highlighting Montreal’s Pro Wrestling Legacy and Sami Zayn return to Montreal as the title challenger. Check the video here.
  • WWE Creative Head Triple H announced that this was the most-watched Elimination Chamber event in WWE history.
  • Triple H also announced that this event broke WWE record for highest gate in Canada.

Adam Pearce announced the second Elimination for the show would be for the #1 contender for RAW Women’s Championship, and the winner would face Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 39. 4 women who were left in the Royal Rumble match before Rhea Ripley qualified for this match – Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Nikki Cross and Asuka. Natalya won a fatal 4-way qualifier match on SmackDown on February 3, by beating Zelina Vega, Shayna Baszler and Shotzi. Carmella defeated Candice LeRae, Mia Yim, and Piper Niven in the final qualifier on RAW February 6 to complete the line-up.

Both Becky Lynch and Bayley expressed their desire to be added to this match. Bianca Belair defeated Becky and Bayley in a triple threat match to stop them from being added to Elimination Chamber match.

Bobby Lashley defeated Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble 2022 to win WWE Championship after Roman Reigns interfered in the match. Later in October, Lashley bragged about his big wins over Lesnar and others. Lesnar came out and attacked Lashley. Seth Rollins capitalized on this and defeated Lashley to win United States Championship. Lashley faced Lesnar at Crown Jewel 2022 event and dominated him. However, Lesnar was able to pin Lashley when he countered the Hurt Lock. Lashley attacked and incapacitated Lesnar after the match.

Lesnar returned on RAW 30th Anniversary episode on January 23, 2023, and attacked Lashley again during this United States Title match against Austin Theory, leading to Lashley losing again. Lashley then eliminated Lesnar from the men’s Royal Rumble match. Lesnar then appeared on RAW February 6 episode and handed Lashley a contract for a match at Elimination Chamber. Lashley accepted the challenge but said he would let his representatives look at the contract first.

On RAW February 13 episode, Lesnar signed the contract before Lashley appeared with some security and set up his own table at the stage for contract signing. Upon some taunting, Lesnar charged through security only to be dropped by Lashley. Lashley then signed the contract as he stood on top of Lesnar and made the match official.

Edge & Beth Pheonix vs Finn Balor & Rhea Ripley – Mixed Tag Team Match

Edge’s rivalry with Judgment Day started in May 2022 when the group turned on their leader after Finn Balor joined. The rivalry ultimately led to an “I Quit” match between Balor and Edge at Extreme Rules 2022 event. Edge was forced to say “I Quit” when Rhea Ripley threatened to hit his wife Beth Pheonix with con-chair-to. Ripley went on to hit Pheonix with the chair anyway. Edge was also beaten down and was sidelined.

Edge then returned in the men’s Royal Rumble and targeted Judgment Day members. After his elimination, he continued to brawl with them on the ramp. When Rhea tried to interfere, Beth hit her with a spear. Edge and Beth once again targetted Judgment Day on RAW January 30 episode. They opened the February 6 RAW episode and challenged Balor and Rhea for a mixed tag team match at Elimination Chamber. The challenge was accepted by Judgment Day right away.

WWE revealed on January 30, 2023, that United States Championship would be defended inside Elimination Chamber this year. Seth Rollins qualified for the match by beating Chad Gable. Johnny Gargano defeated Baron Corbin in the second qualifier. Bronson Reed defeated Dolph Ziggler to qualify for the match. Damian Priest defeated Angelo Dawkins to earn a spot in this match. Montez Ford defeated Elias to complete the line-up for the match.

After weeks of conflicts and uncertainty, Sami Zayn’s story with The Bloodline took a big turn at Royal Rumble. When Sami tried to stop Roman Reigns from hitting an already incapacitated Kevin Owens with a steel chair, Sami hit the chair on Roman itself. After this, The Bloodline beat up Sami apart from Jey Uso, who left the ring and went away. Jey was not with The Bloodline when they arrived on the following SmackDown episode.

Later in the show, Roman cut a promo saying he saw greed in Sami’s eyes, and he used him and The Bloodline. Sami attacked Roman moments later and replied that he never wanted anything from him, but now he wanted his Universal Championship. After Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa beat up Sami, Roman said Sami had broken his family as he separated Jey Uso from them. So, Roman would now break Sami in front of his family and friends in his hometown of Montreal at Elimination Chamber.

On the following episode of SmackDown, Jey Uso returned to team up with Jimmy to defend tag team titles. Sami met him backstage and told Jey that he acknowledged Jey, and while he is about to bring down Roman, Jey did not need to go down with him. Sami also appeared on RAW to talk to Cody Rhodes who in turn motivated Sami to feel confident about beating Roman at Elimination Chamber.
