UFC presented a fight night event on September 23, 2023, from UFC Apex Arena in Las Vegas. Since it was the 79th event from the venue, it is also called UFC Vegas 79. The event is also called UFC on ESPN 52 as it was the 52nd Fight Night to air on ESPN.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported via UFC President Dana White that Rafael Fiziev vs Mateusz Gamrot lightweight bout would headline this event while Bryce Mitchell vs Dan Ige featherweight bout would be the co-main event.

Javid Basharat and Victor Henry were booked for this event, but Henry had to pull out with unknown issues. The bout was later shifted to UFC 294 PPV.
