Roman Reigns & Jey Uso Set for Tribal Comabt at WWE SummerSlam 2023
Roman Reigns will defend his WWE Universal Championship against Jey Uso at the SummerSlam 2023 PLE event in a Tribal Combat match.
During the July 21 episode of SmackDown, Jey, and Roman were set to sign the contract, but Jey tore it up and announced a Tribal Combat match with permission from The Bloodline elders. Reigns had no choice but to accept the stipulation. Later on, WWE made the match official.
In the Tribal Combat match, anything is allowed as it is a no-holds-barred street fight match. Roman also put his garland on the title to indicate that the post of Tribal Cheif might also be on the line in the match.

The Bloodline break-up started at Night of Champions event when Jimmy Uso turned on Roman Reigns before Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens defeated Roman and Solo to retain the undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships.
During the June 16 episode of SmackDown, Reigns was waiting for Jey’s decision about whether he would join Reigns or stay loyal to his brother, Jimmy Uso. Jey Uso hit a superkick on Reigns, making a clear statement that he will not abandon his bond with Jimmy.
This led to a Bloodline Civil War match at the Money in the Bank PPV event, where Jimmy and Jey defeated Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa in the Bloodline Civil War. The moment of the match was when Jey pinned Roman Reigns for the first time in three and a half years.
During the July 7 episode of SmackDown, The Usos called the Tribal Court, where Roman Reigns was on trial. During the trial, Reigns and Sikoa brutally beat up Jimmy, which led to Jimmy being carried away on a stretcher. Later that night, Jey Uso got back to Smackdown to attack Roman and Solo, and grabbed the Universal Championship belt, declaring that he wanted a Trial by Combat.
On the July 14 episode of SmackDown, Paul Heyman mentioned that Reigns would discuss rules of engagement next week, which has now led to this match being announced. Roman Reigns is holding the WWE Universal Championship for 1055+ days. Jey Uso was his first title defense at Clash of Champions 2020 event.
WWE SummerSlam 2023 is scheduled for August 5 in Detroit, MI. A triple-threat match is also scheduled for the WWE Women’s Championship between Asuka, Bianca Belair, and Charlotte Flair.
