Brock Lesnar will defend the WWE Championship against Bobby Lashley at WWE Royal Rumble 2022 event.

Brock Lesnar jumped into the WWE Championship match at WWE Day 1 to make it a 5-way contest and won the match by pinning the reigning champion Big E. He was earlier supposed to be part of the WWE Universal Championship match. But, that match was nixed due to Roman Reigns contracting COVID-19.

Paul Heyman was back with the Beast Incarnate on WWE RAW this Monday as it was revealed that it was Heyman negotiated a deal backstage to put Lesnar into the WWE title match at Day 1 event. Lesnar and Heyman fired warning at Roman Reigns and also at the future title contender also.

Prior to RAW, WWE has revealed that the original fatal 4-way at Day 1 would take place this evening with the winner getting the title shot against Lesnar at Royal Rumble. Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens once again decided to work together against the threat from Big E and Bobby Lashley. The duo decided that whoever will win the match, he will get help from the other men to beat Brock Lesnar and the pair will face each other at WrestleMania.

The partnership seemed to be working fine for the most part despite Big E and Lashley making comebacks during the main event match at RAW. However, in the end, it did not matter because Lashley speared through everyone one by one and pinned Kevin Owens to win the match.

Lashley vs Lesnar was rumoured to take place at Royal Rumble 2022 ever since Lesnar won the title. We previously reported how WWE booked the match at Day 1 in a way that Lesnar did not get any meaningful offence on Lashley while the Dominator was able to put Lesnar in the Hurt Lock. A post-match staredown was also a hint that we are heading into a blockbuster match in future.

This match is also something that Lashley has been chasing for a few years now. Lashley talked about this several times since his return to WWE in 2018. After winning the WWE Championship in March this year, Lashley once again said,

“Everybody knows that when Brock comes back, there’s gonna be a lot to answer to, and I welcome it. Before, it was one of those things where everybody said they wanted to see that match, and that match was probably not ever gonna come. Didn’t have anything that he wanted. But I do now. So it’s different. We’ll see. We’ll see if ‘The Beast’ comes back out to play.”

At the time, Lesnar was on hiatus from WWE and returned only in August 2021. But instead of coming after Lashley, still the WWE Champion at the time, he went after Universal Champion Roman Reigns. However, things changed quickly after Roman tested positive for Coronavirus and we are heading towards the clash of the Titans at Royal Rumble 2022.

Despite being a champion on RAW, Lesnar has also fired a warning to Roman that he will see him at SmackDown this week and it looks like that storyline will also move in parallel. WWE Royal Rumble will take place on January 29, 2022, at the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, MO.
