WWE SummerSlam 2020 Pre-Show

Apollo Crews(c) vs MVP – WWE United States Championship Match

MVP came to the ring alone, leaving behind his Hurt Business buddies at backstage. Crews started the match fine but MVP took over the control soon. MVP thought that a superplex will get him the win but Crews came back with a clothesline, leading to a near count-out. After more back and forth, Crews avoided the playmaker and hits his sitdown powerbomb finisher to get the win.

Winner – Apollo Crews (retains WWE United States Championship)

SummerSlam 2020 Main Show Results

Bayley(c) vs Asuka – WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

Asuka started the show with the first match of the night. Bayley survived the early submission attempts but Asuka then started focusing on her lower body. The action moved out of the ring for a while with Asuka hitting a DDT off the steps. Bayley made a comeback with a springboard stunner and soon followed with a Bayley-to-Belly to get near falls.

Asuka would also hit her with the hip attack for a near fall of her own. Asuka suffered damage to her leg when the fight moved to the apron. The back and forth continued. Sasha Banks started causing interferences and one such interference caused Asuka to lose focus and Bayley rolled him up in the small package pin to get the win.

Winner – Bayley, retained her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

Sasha Banks jumped on Asuka after the match in order to cause more damage and make her task easier for later in the day.

The Street Profits(c) vs Angel Garza & Andrade – WWE RAW Tag Team Championship

Kevin Owens joined the commentary team for the match but never got involved in the action. The Street Profits had the advantage in early exchanges. The challenger caught Ford during the suicide dive to turn the tide in their favor.

The heels kept control over Ford until he tagged out for the final segment of the match. Angelo Dawkins ran over the heels before Ford returned. Ford sent Garza tumbling into Zelina Vega. The Profits double teamed Garza for the finish while Andrade was checking on Vega.

Winners – The Street Profits, retains WWE RAW Tag Team Championship

Mandy Rose vs Sonya Deville – No, Disqualification Match, Loser Leaves WWE

A hard hitting match between the former tag team partners concluded their rivalry. The fight move out to the floor where Rose got an upperhand briefly as she tossed Deville around. Deville took control as soon as they returned to the ring.

Trash talk from Deville got Rose pumped up but a knee to the gut downed her. Rose though slams Deville into the announce table. But she misses the big chair shots next. Deville takes her back to the ring after hitting a running kick to the gut. Rose countered with a series of running knee strikes. The fourth running knee gets her the pin which boots Deville out of WWE.

Winner – Mandy Rose

Sonya Deville throws tantrum at the ringside while Otis joined Mandy in the ring to celebrate.

Seth Rollins vs Dominik Mysterio – Street Fight

Seth Rollins came out in tights similar to the Phantom design that Rey wore at his match against Eddie Guerrero at WCW Halloween Havoc 1997. He was dominent from the start but some quick moves by Dominik shocked him a bit. Murphy threw in the kendo sticks after Rollins took the junior Mysterio down and the senior Mysterio could only watch from the sidelines.

Dominik worked as a true baby face, taking the punishment from Rollins. He showed his wrestling abilities in between with a fine excution of drop toehold, buckle bomb and DDT for a near fall. But each time Dominik seems to be making inroads, Rollins came back more furiously. A classic superplex and a Falcon Arrow combo got a near-fall for Rollins.

The camera cut to backstage a few times showing Dominik’s mother watching concernly. Rollins punished a bit more with kendo stick before Dominik brought him down from the top turnbuckle into the table. Dominik also paid homage to Eddie with a frog splash for another near fall. Rollins’ assualt continued which forced Angie Mysterio to come out to the ramp.

Rey got distracted with her and Murphy jumped into the match. Rey had to save his son’s eyes but found himself handcuffed to the ropes by the heels. Dominik backdropped Murphy and hit 619 on Rollins. Rollins got her knee up on the following frog splash. He taunted Rey before hitting the stomp to get the win.

Winner – Seth Rollins

Sasha Banks(c) vs Asuka – WWE RAW Women’s Championship Match

Asuka came out for her second match of SummerSlam 2020. Sasha got the first major spot with a sunset flip powerbomb off the apron. Both women had to beat the 10-count after that spot. The back and forth continued and Asuka tried to work on submission than big moves. Understandbly since this was her second outing of the night.

Both women countered each other throughout the match and never let the other one run with the momentum. Asuka looked for the Asuka Lock which was countered into a Bank Statement a few times. When Bayley tried to interfere, she got a hip attack in return. Asuka countered another the Bank Statement and forced Banks to tap out. Her cries for her best friend went in vain.

Winner – Asuka, wins WWE RAW Women’s Championship

Post match, Sasha remained rooted in the ring in a shock. Bayley returned to the rings with a sorry face but did not get anything in return from Sasha.

Drew McIntyre(c) vs Randy Orton – WWE Championship Match

Orton tried to get the RKO going early in the match but McIntyre avoided successfully. While the champion also missed Claymore early in, Orton slowed down the pace every time he got control. Both men paid homage to Ric Flair as McIntyre put on the figure four leglock and Orton had to resort to an eye poke to break the hold.

McIntyre unloaded on Orton with punches, suplexes, top rope clothesline and a future shock DDT. But Orton came with snap powerslam before eating a Glasgow kiss. Orton’s attempt for the punt was answered by a powerbomb before McIntyre went for the Claymore again. Orton dodged it but was caught by a backslide into the pin when he went for the RKO.

Winner – Drew McIntyre, retains WWE Championship

Braun Strowman(c) vs The Fiend Bray Wyat – Falls Count Anywhere Match, WWE Universal Championship

The typical hard hitting match between two guys. The champion started well before The Fiend broke his toolbox on his back. Both men continued to throw each other into tables, barriers, stage LED, ringside with big moves. The Fiend, as usual, kept kicking out easily after big moves.

Strowman fought back after the mandible claw and hit the powerslam number 3, only for the Fiend to kick out again. A frustrated Strowman then picked up the box-cutter and cut up the ring canvas. But that turned out to be fatal for him as The Fiend hit the Uranage and a couple of Sister Abigail to get the win.

Winner – The Fiend Bray Wyatt, wins WWE Universal Championship

Post match, Roman Reigns makes his return by attacking The Fiend with a spear. He did not stop there and also took down Strowman with a sper before raining down chairs on him. Roman then went back to the ring to hit another spear on the Fiend and closed the show with raising the title in the air.
