Gunther vs Matt Riddle Announced for WWE Money in the Bank 2023

Gunther will defend his Intercontinental championship against Matt Riddle at WWE Money in the Bank 2023 PLE event.

During the June episode of RAW, Riddle challenged Gunther for the title match when Ludwig Kaiser interrupted him. This led to a brawl between Kaiser and Riddle where Kaiser was able to take Riddle down. Gunther also came in and stomped on Riddle’s leg before accepting Riddle’s challenge.

Ludwig and Gunther were backstage later in the show where Ludwig confirmed that Gunther would face Riddle for his Intercontinental Championship at Money in the Bank.

The rivalry between Riddle and Imperium is very long as Riddle defeated Imperium in a six-man tag team match with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. The rivalry was sparked again after Riddle attacked them backstage and caused an injury to Vinci’s leg during June 12, 2023 episode of WWE RAW.

Last week, Riddle faced Ludwig in a one-on-one match, which resulted in Riddle winning. After the match, Gunther launched a brutal attack on Riddle and targeted his left leg as he sought revenge on behalf of his allies.

Gunther has held WWE Intercontinental Championship for more than a year now, and has become the fifth man to do so. Many have tried to take the title away from him, but Gunther, with help from Imperium, has held onto the title. Will Riddle be the one to dethrone him?

WWE Money in the Bank PLE event is scheduled for July 1, 2023, live from The O2 Arena in London, England.
