WWE SmackDown July 7: Edge Returns, Theory-Sheamus & Styles-Kross Set

WWE has announced the return of Edge, an United States title match and a rematch for WWE SmackDown episode of July 7, 2023.

WWE will return to Madison Square Garden in New York City next week for SmackDown and they have announced that WWE Hall of Famer Edge will feature on the show. Edge will be the special guest at Grayson Waller Effect talkshow segment, where he is expected to start the build-up towards his match at SummerSlam 2023.

Austin Theory will defend WWE United States Championship against Sheamus on July 7 episode. Theory faced Sheamus’ teammate Ridge Holland this week in a non-title match. After winning the match, Theory continued to attack Holland, which brought out Sheamus to make the save. WWE later announced that Sheamus will challenge Theory for the title next week.

Sheamus is a former 3-time WWE United States Champion. Theory has been the champion since Survivor Series 2022 event where he won the title from Seth Rollins in a triple threat match also involving Bobby Lashley.

AJ Styles and Karrion Kross are also set for a rematch on SmackDown next week. Styles defeated Kross on May 19 episode of the blue brand. Two weeks back, Kross choked out Styles to win a mixed tag team match between Styles & Michin and Kross & Scarlett. Kross cut a promo on this week’s SmackDown(June 30) to call out Styles for a rematch. Styles accepted the challenge later in the show.

July 7, 2023 episode of SmackDown will see the brand return to Madison Square Garden in New York City for the first time for a live episode since Super SmackDown in September 2021. It will also be the first live WWE TV show since WWE RAW on July 24, 2022. The advertised line-up is as below:

  • Edge on Grayson Waller Effect
  • AJ Styles vs Karrion Kross
  • US Title match – Austin Theory vs Sheamus
