AEW has officially confirmed three matches for the August 5, 2023 episode of AEW Collision, including CM Punk vs Ricky Starks for the Real AEW World Championship.

During the July 29 episode of AEW Collision, CM Punk finally revealed the content of the red bag that he has been caring for since his return to AEW on the June 17 episode of AEW Saturday Collision.

In an interview with Tony Schiavone, CM Punk pulled out the old AEW world championship belt from the bag. Punk mentioned that he is the real champion. Punk also mentioned that nobody has defeated him for the title since he defeated Jon Moxley in a bloody match at AEW All Out 2022. After hearing this, Starks came out to challenge for “the real” AEW World Championship, and the bout was confirmed by AEW for August 5 episode of AEW Collison.

Although, there will be a special referee for the match due to Starks stealing wins over Punk for the last two weeks with illegal rope leverage. Punk revealed that the referee will Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat.

Kris Statlander will also defend her TBS championship against Mercedes Martinez in the August 5 episode of AEW Collision. During the July 29 episode, AEW Collison Martinez defeated Kiera Hogan. After the match, Martinez continued her assault on Hogan until Statlander came to Hogan’s aid. Martinez ran over Statlander with the TBS title belt.

 FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) will defend their AEW Tag Team championship against Brian Cage and Big Bill next week on Collision. Brian Cage and Big Bill got the title shot on the July 28 episode of Rampage by winning a tag team Battle Royal. FTR also successfully retained their titles against MJF and Adam Cole on July 29 episode of AEW Collison. 

August 5, 2023 episode of AEW Collision will be live from Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, SC. Below is the announced line-up for the show:

  • CM Punk vs. Ricky Starks for Real” AEW World Championship
  • FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) vs. Brian Cage & Big Bill for AEW Tag Team Championships
  • Kris Statlander  vs. Mercedes Martinez for AEW TBS Championship
