EVENT NOTES

On November 20, ESPN Deportes’ Carlos Legaspi reported that Edgar Cháirez and Daniel Lacerda were rebooked to fight on February 24, 2024, in an event that was s expected to take place in Mexico. UFC revealed a list of some event for early 2024 on December 14 during UFC 296 press conference where they confirmed the event to take place at Mexico City Arena in Mexico City. This will be UFC’s first event in Mexico since September 21, 2019 Fight Night event at the same arena.

ESPN’s Carlos Lepaspi reported on his podcast that Brandon Moreno vs Amir Albazi flyweight bout was discussed as a 5-round bout. Dana White announced on December 21 that it would be the main event while the co-main event would be Yair Rodriguez vs Brian Ortega(5 rounds). On January 11, Amir Albazi announced that he was dealing with a serious neck injury and had to pull out of the fight against Moreno. Brandon Royval was then roped in as the replacement in the main event.

Chairez and Lacerda’s first fight ended in a premature stoppage at Noche UFC on September 16, 2023, after the referee thought Lacerda had passed out. The bout was later booked for October 14 event, but Lacerda suffered some medical issues due to weight cut, and the fight was canceled. The bout was later rebooked for this event. At the weigh-in, Lacerda weighed in at 127 lbs(1 lb above the weight limit) while Chairez weighed in at 131 lbs(5 lbs above weight limit). The bout was changed to 131 lbs catchweight bout.

A bantamweight bout between Raul Rosas Jr. and Ricky Turcios was announced for the event. Both fighters successfully made weight at 136 lbs for the bout. Just a few minutes before the walkout for the bout, Rosas had to pull out due to illness. Dana White then announced that the bout would take place on UFC Vegas 87 on March 2.
