Tyson Fury Cut in Sparring, Fight vs Oleksandr Usyk Postponed
Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk fight for Undisputed Heavyweight Championship is postponed now.
Queensberry Promotion released a statement on Friday that Tyson Fury suffered a cut during sparring session in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The cut required stitches and Fury will require a period of recovery, making him unable to face Usyk as scheduled on February 17.
The statement also mentioned that they will work to reschedule the fight as quickly as possible. Fury also posted on Instagram that he was in the best shape and had been training hard for the fight.
The complete event scheduled on February 17 is cancelled for now with all the bout on the card.
Oleksandr Usyk’s camp has responded with starting to make alternate plans. Usyk has an IBF mandatory challenger to face in Filip Hrgovic. Hrgovic called to face Usyk on February 17 itself, but those talks are premature at this moment.
Fury is the reigning WBC World Heavyweight Champion while Usyk holds IBF, WBO & WBA(Super) World Heavyweight titles. The winner of the fight would have been crowned the first ever Undisputed Champion in the four-belt era from heavyweight division.
This was the third time that the bout was attempted or was booked. Will either side made another attempt to book this fight? Keep tuned in for more updates.
