Dalton Smith took on Sam Maxwell to headline a Matchroom Boxing event on July 1, 2023, at Utilita Arena Sheffield in Sheffield, UK, in a fight featuring a regional title on the line.

Smith defended his British in this bout. He won the British Super Lightweight title last year in August by beating Sam O’maison at the same arena. That title was defended twice successfully since against Kaisee Benjamin and Billy Allington.

Sam Maxwell held the Commonwealth Super Lightweight title, which he won back in August 2021, where he also won the British title. He had been involved in other bouts since but did not defend this title. He was coming off a win over Shaun Cooper in February this year. Was he able to become a double title holder once again?

The main card, which started at 2 PM ET, featured two more title bouts. Pat McCormack took on Tony Dixon in a bout for the WBA Continental Super Welterweight title. Hopey Price faced James Beech for WBA Continental Featherweight title. The prelims card was set to start at 12 PM ET.
