Our wait to see a Hell in a Cell match is cut short by two days.
WWE has announced that the Universal Championship Hell in a Cell match between Roman Reigns and Rey Mysterio will now take place tomorrow on SmackDown.
Roman was supposed to defend the title inside the cell at Hell in a Cell 2021 PPV. However, on Thursday, Rey Mysterio tweeted that the wait for Sunday’s match was eating him up inside and asked the match to go on Friday at SmackDown. Roman Reigns replied that any day works for him and asked Paul Heyman to handle the respective paperwork to shift the match to SmackDown.
WWE has now confirmed that Hell in a Cell match will now go down at the SmackDown episode of 18 June 2021. This will be the first-ever Hell in a Cell match to take place at a SmackDown episode. Check the complete list of WWE Hell in a Cell matches.
The feud between Roman Reigns and Rey Mysterio started at SmackDown 4 June episode, after Roman Reigns interfered in the Mysterios vs The Usos match for SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Roman proceeded to beat up both Rey and his son Dominik.
Rey Mysterio then challenged Roman for a match inside Hell in a Cell. This was followed by a brawl between the Mysterios and Roman. Later, Paul Heyman accepted the challenge for Roman at Talking Smack.
Three matches are now announced for WWE SmackDown episode of 18 June 2021:
- Roman Reig(c vs Rey Mysterio – Hell in a Cell Match for Universal Championship
- Otis vs Angelo Dawkins
- Commander Azeez & Apollo Crews vs Kevin Owens & Big E
