Rhea Ripley has decided to challenge SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair at WWE WrestleMania 39.
Rhea Ripley made history when she won the 2023 women’s Royal Rumble from #1 position and lasted for more than 61 minutes, a record for the women’s Rumble match. This win gave her the choice to challenge either for RAW or SmackDown Women’s title. WWE announced that Ripley will make announce her choice at this week’s RAW episode.
Rhea cut a promo in the ring where she remembered about how she came to RAW three years ago as the NXT Women’s Champion to challenge the Royal Rumble winner. Charlotte Flair was the one who won the women’s Royal Rumble in 2020. After Rhea’s challenge, Charlotte decided to challenge her for NXT Women’s Championship and defeated her at WrestleMania 36.
Rhea said that she would like to take revenge for that loss and challenged Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39. The match was later confirmed by WWE. WrestleMania 39 will take place on April 1, 2023 & April 2, 2023, at SoFi Stadium in Hollywood, CA.
Charlotte Flair won the SmackDown Women’s title just one month ago when she returned to the blue brand. She put out an impromptu challenge to Ronda Rousey and took away the title from her. This is her 14th World title reign.
Although, Rhea might have to take another challenge before getting to Flair. Beth Pheonix had hit her with a spear at Royal Rumble and then at RAW this week when Rhea attacked Edge. It is currently expected that Rhea might face Pheonix at Elimination Chamber event on February 18, 2023 in a singles match.
Rhea Ripley is also a former RAW Women’s Champion and also not new to winning the title at WrestleMania. She previously defeated Asuka at WrestleMania 37 to win the Red brand title.
