Welcome to the live results and updates blog for the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 16 Night 2 on January 5, 2022, from Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan.

The main event will be the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match between Kazuchika Okada and Will Ospreay. KENTA will defend the US Heavyweight title against the legend Hiroshi Tanahashi in the co-main event. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight and NEVER Openweight 6-man titles will also be on the line during the night along with a Stardom Special match.

KOPW 2022 will feature the legends like Minoru Suzuki and Tatsumi Fujiname as well as CIMA and KOPW 2020 and 2021 winner Toru Yanu. The stars like Tetsuya Naito, Jeff Cobb, Sanada and more will also be in action.

  • Satoshi Kojima, Master Wato & Hiroyoshi Tenzan defeated Suzuki Gun(Yoshinobu Kanemaru, El Desperado & TAKA Michinoku) in a tag team match via pinfall.

Tomoaki Honma, Togi Makabe & Yugi Nagata vs Bullet Club (Gedo, Jado & Bad Luck Fale)

Bullet Club attacks as soon as the bell rings. Fale and Makabe are left in the ring. Bullet Club takes over and keeps Makabe under control. Makabe fires back with some punches on Jado and Fale. He breaks their double clothesline and drops them both. Nagata tags in and takes on Fale. He goes for a suplex on Fale but Jado attacks him from behind. Nagata hits a low dropkick on Jado. Fale hits him with a shoulder tackle. Honma tags in and Fale drops him as well.

Bullet club with quick strikes on Honma and Nagata comes in to break the pin. Jado was looking to bring in the kendo stick but the referee catches him. Makabe and Honma double team on Gedo. Makabe clothesline Fale to the floor. Honma and Gedo go at it in the ring. Honma hits a flying tackle and a diving headbutt to get the pin on Gedo.

Suzuki Gun(Yoshinobu Kanemaru, El Desperado & TAKA Michinoku) vs Satoshi Kojima, Master Wato & Hiroyoshi Tenzan

El Desperado and Wato start. Wato with big kicks to the midsection. Desperado rakes his eyes. Wato drops him with sidekick and follows with more kicks on the chest and back. Tenzan tags in when Wato get hyper in the corner. Kojima and Tenzan double team on Desperado. Tenzan hits a corner splash and a suplex for a two-count on Desperado. Desperado ducks his clothesline and Suzuki Gun takes over control.

Tenzan counters against Kanemaru and Michinoku. Kojima comes in with his signature machine gun chops. He follows up with a DDT on Michinoku and neckbreaker on Kanemaru. Desperado and Wato tag in and trade kicks. Desperado hits a spinebuster and spinout powerbomb. Kojima and Tenzan break the pin. Wato hits a piledriver on Desperado and Suzuki Gun breaks the pin. More back and forth, Desperado kicks out of a crucifix pin. Wato puts on a submission move and gets El Desperado to tap out.

The Young Lions(Douki, Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi) vs Los Ingobernables de Japon(Bushi, Shingo Takagi & Hiromu Takahashi)

Bushi starts against Douki with some back and forth action. Takahashi and Sabre tag in. Takahashi is mocking Sabre as he invites him for show of strength. Sabre pushes him in anger to start a quick back and forth. Takahashi look in a hurry as he runs the ropes. Sabre catches his leg into a kneebar. Takahashi reaches the ropes. Sabre puts him in a cloverleaf next. Douki comes in and hits a double stomp.

Taichi comes in with a kick to the back. He chokes Takahashi and utilizes the referee’s count completely. Takahashi fires back with chops and headscissors. He hits a dragon screw leg whipand tags in Takagi. Takagi hits clothesline in the corner. Sabre comes and Takagi hits a suplex. Taichi is dropped with combination strikes. Taichi hits a back heel kick to his face.

Shingo goes for a German suplex but Taichi hits him with enziguiri. They both drop each other with a lariat and an X-bomb. Douki tags in and clotheslines Shingo in the corner. A step up enziguiri from Douki before he low bridges him to the floor. Douki also sends Bushi to the floor. Douki hits a dive on all 5 participants of the match.

Douki hits a DDT on Shingo for a two-count. He rakes Shingo’s face. Shingo drops him with lariat and follows with sliding lariat. Shingo hits hoshigami on Sabre. Shingo and Takahashi double team on Douki with some quick moves before Shingo hits Lost of the Dragon for the pin.

Flying Tiger(Tiger Mask & Robbie Eagles)(c) vs Mega Coaches(Rocky Romero & Ryusuke Taguchi) vs Bullet Club(El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori) – IWGP Jr Heavyweight Tag Team Championship Match

The match starts with chaos. Mega Coaches take control. Rocky slams Eagles into Taguchi’s back. Bullet Club come and beat Eagles some more. Ishimori is whipped into Eagles for double knees. Rocky flies in to drop Ishimori. Taguchi comes in but Phantasmo is using a loaded boot on his hand. Phantasmo walks the ropes until Eagles drops him with headscissors. Eagles hits a suicide dive on Romero and Ishimori.

Tiger Mask hits double underhook suplex on Taguchi. He hits the same on Ishimori and Phantasmo has to break the pin. Body slams to Romero and Taguchi from Tiger Mask. Eagles tags in and puts on a kneebar on Romero. Ishimori breaks the submission. Mega Coaches hit double hip attack on Tiger Mask. Bullet Club breaks the pin. Ishimori hits Taguchi with springboard enziguiri. Romero brings them down with double headscissors. Too much going on and it is impossible to keep up.

Phantasmo hits UFO on Tiger Mask and then hits a splash. Tiger Mask still kicks out of the pin. Other two teams now work together on Phantasmo. They take off his loaded boot bring out a piece of metal from it to show it to the referee. The referee disqualifies Bullet Club from the match. The match is turned into a straight-up tag team match.

The remaining two teams continue with back and forth action. Eagles hits backpack for a near fall. Eagles puts on the Ron Miller Special on Romero to get the submission.

Winners – Flying Tiger(Tiger Mask & Robbie Eagles)

Tam Nakano & Saya Kamitani vs Mayu Iwatani & Starlight Kid

Kamitani and Starlight start the match. Starlight with a headscissors and a dropkick. She tags in Iwatani. Double 619 from them on Kamitani. Kamitani hits a leg lariat and tags in Nakano. Nakano hits a dropkick. Nakano and Iwatani trade strikes. Iwatani unloads with punches and hits a dropkick to the side of the head. She gets a two-count with a crucifix bomb. Nakano hits a roundhouse kick. Iwatani hits back with slingblade.

Starlight and Kamitani tag in. Kamitani hits a dropkick. Nakano and Kamitani tries to double team but Iwatani sends them to the floor with double armdrags. Starlight hits a suicide dive on the floor to both opponents. She hits a splash on Kamitani for a near fall. She follows with a crossbody from the top, and this time Nakano breaks the pin. Starlight puts Iwatani in a cloverleaf. Nakano sends Iwatani to the floor and hits a lariat on Starlight to break the submission. Nakano now hits a crossbody dive on the floor on both opponents.

Kamitani and Starlight trade several pin attempts before Kamitani hits a schoolboy German suplex for a near fall. Back and forth action continues. Kamitani hits a falcon arrow on Starlight and then hits a pheonix sword elbow drop to get the pin.

Winner – Tam Nakano & Saya Kamitani

Minoru Suzuki vs Toru Yano vs Chase Owens vs CIMA – 4-way match for KOPW 2022

Other three beat-up Toru Yano to start the match. Yanu is sent to the floor. Suzuki also sends Owens to the floor. Suzuki and CIMA go at it with chest slaps. CIMA hits a missile dropkick. Suzuki drops CIMA with a tackle. Yanu and Owens bring him out and CIMA hits a suicide dive on the floor on all three of them.

Yanu removes a corner pad and slams Suzuki into it. CIMA then whips Yanu into the same corner. CIMA puts Yanu in a leglock. Owens and Suzuki keep hitting him but CIMA does not break the lock. Owens puts CIMA in the sleeper while he still has leglock on. Suzuki puts Owens in the sleeper. Yanu reaches the ropes to break all the locks. The match turns into chaos.

Owens nails a knee to Yanu. CIMA stops a package piledriver. Yanu clear CIMA and Owens from the ring. Suzuki hits him with a dropkick and then hits a package piledriver to get the pin and the win.

Winner – Minoru Suzuki(provisional KOPW 2022 champion)

House of Torture(Yujiro Takahashi, SHO & EVIL)(c) vs Chaos(YOSHI-HASHI, YOH & Hirooki Goto) – NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship Match

Evil and Goto are the ones left in the ring after a quick start. Sho comes in and works on Goto. Quick tags between Chaos. Goto stops the suplex and reverses with a clothesline. Evil tags in but Goto drops him with a back drop suplex. YH tags in and drops Evil. YH with quick moves to keep control. He hits a dropkick on Takahashi on the ropes.

Takahashi hits a dropkick on YH. Takahashi hits a back drop suplex. Yoh and Sho tag in and go at it. Yoh with a drop toe hold and a dropkick. Sho hits a running knee. Evil drips Yoh and Chaos work on Yoh in tandem.

Sho hits a powerbomb and Goto has to break the pin. Dick Togo hands Sho a wrench. The referee stops him from using it. Other members of Repongi 3k come in and takes Dogo away. House of Torture work on Sho in tandem now. Yoh drops sho with a backbreaker. He goes for a gulittone choke but the referee gets distracted by YH and Evil hits Yoh with a low blow. Sho gets an easy pin on Yoh after a wrench shot.

Winner – House of Torture(Yujiro Takahashi, SHO & EVIL)

Wrestlers from NOAH wrestling are in the ring to promote night 3 of Wrestle Kingdom. Shingo Takagi comes out to confront them and exchange a promo.

Sanada vs Great-O-Khan

Khan tries to catch his leg but Sanada quickly switches his position. They circle the ring after a stalemate. Sanada with arm dragon twist and Khan reverses it. Sanada hits him with a dropkick after an armdrag. Sanada goes for a moonsault on the floor but Khan gets into the ring and clotheslines him to the floor. Khan with a facelock takedown. He hits a reverse STO for a two-count. Khan keeps control over Sanada for a while.

Sanada tries to fight back with punches but Khan hits him with Mongolian chops on the shoulders. Sanada cuts him off with a dropkick to the knee. Sanada hits him with arm drags and an atomic drop. Sanada looks for a submission move but Khan kicks him away and drops him with an ironclaw backbreaker. For some reason, the referee was stopping Great-O-Khan from going to the floor. Khan hits a crossbody on Sanada when Sanada provokes him. A reverse powerslam from Khan as they get back to the ring. He gets a few two-count with O’Connor roll.

Khan goes for a gutwrench suplex but Sanada stops him. Khan reverse with an iron claw hold. Sanada hits an overhead kick. He counters the eliminator with an armdrag. Back and forth action leads to another iron claw hold. Sanada forces him to change the move. Sanada hits a tiger suplex and bridges it for a two-count. Sanada hits a moonsault but Khan gets his knees up.

They trade forearm strikes in the middle when they get up. Khan hits a straight right fist to the jaw. Sanada hits back with a heel kick. Khan hits another fist for a near fall. Khan hits a moonsault before Sanada rolls him up in the O’Connor roll for the pin.

Winner – Sanada

Tetsuya Naito vs Jeff Cobb

Cobb starts the match by viciosly beating up Naito in the corner. The referee seperates him. Cobb whips Naito from corner to corner. Naito hits a boot from the corner and then hits a low dropkick. Naito kicks at Cobb in frustration. The action slips to the floor where Naito hits another low dropkick. Cobb counters with a big suplex on the floor.

Cobb gets into the ring and the referee counts for Naito. Cobb stomps on him as he returns to the ring. Cobb tosses him around with suplex. This is followed by Cobb slamming Naito into the corner pad. Cobb with big chops in the corner. Naito goes for a sidekick but Cobb drops him with a tackle. Naito hits back with a dropkick. Naito hits a back elbow and a dropkick in quick succession. Naito is now targetting his attack on the knee.

Naito puts on the scissor kneelock to put more pressure on the knee. Cobb reaches the ropes. He avoids a dropkick on the knee and hits a German suplex. Cobb hits a running uppercut in the corner. Naito comes back with a tornado DDT. He hits another dropkick to the knee and a bulldog. Naito avoids a powerslam. Cobb gets on the top. Naito looks for headscissors but Cobb counters with a powerbomb for a near fall.

Naito manages to put on the scissor knee lock once again. Cobb hulks up after seeing his blood and unloads on Naito with punches. He hits a gutwrench German suplex. Naito tries to bring him down with kicks and enziguiri. Cobb drops him to the mat. Naito manages to hit Destino after Cobb’s knee gives out to get the pin.

Winner – Tetsuya Naito

KENTA(c) vs Hiroshi Tanahashi – No Disqualification Match for IWGP US Heavyweight Championship Match

They both have kendo stick in their hand and start swinging it. They get to the floor and KENTA gets the upper hand and unloads with the kendo stick. KENTA brings out a trash can and steel chairs into the ring. Kenta hits a steel chair on Tanahashi’s back. He then uses trash can and other things on Tanahashi next. Kenta whips him into a ladder. Tanahashi hits a low dropkick to send Kenta face-first into the trash can.

Tanahashi smashes a trash can and breifcase into Kenta’s face. Tanahashi brings out a guitar and smashes it on Kenta’s face. Tanahashi is setting up a table on the floor. He hits a dragon screw leg whip on the ropes on Kenta. Kenta hits him back with a briefcase. Kenta and Tanahashi fight on the top rope now. Kenta gets dropped to the mat. Tanahashi brings more chairs into the ring and slams Kenta into them with a slingblade. Tanahashi goes for a splash on the chair but Kenta moves away. Tanahashi crashes into the chairs.

Kenta puts Tanahashi into the corner and buries him with a chairs. Kenta hits a dropkick on the chairs. Tanahashi counters the GTS with a neckbreaker and then hits a DDT on the chair. Tanahashi brings the table into the ring and sets up Kenta on it. Tanahashi goes to the top and KENTA recovers to slam him with a chair. Kenta hits an avalanche falcon arrow into the table.

Kenta brings out a big ladder and takes his time to set it up. He then sets up a table in the middle of the ring and sets up Tanahashi on it. Kenta climbs the ladder but Tanahashi stiffles the ladder and Kenta drops into a trash can. Tanahashi slams Kenta to the mat and then sets him up on the table. Tanahashi hits a frog splash on KENTA to take him through the table and gets the win.

Winner – Hiroshi Tanahashi

Kazuchika Okada(c) vs Will Ospreay – IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match

Ospreay picks the leg to start. Some catch wrestling follows. Okada puts on a headlock and then drops Ospreay with a shoulder tackle. Okada nails some elbows to Ospreay’s back. He puts on a chinlock. Ospreay nails an elbow to the midsection. He puts Okada on the top and hits a big chop. He quickly follows up with a DDT and a flying forearm.

Ospreay keeps control on the floor as he rakes Okada’s face into the barricade and continues to nail him with punches. Ospreay kicks at Okada’s back and this leads to Okada hulking up. But Ospreay drops him with a forearm strike. Ospreay hits big chops to the chest and drops him with a spinning sidewalk slam on his back.

Okada comes back with flapjack. He hits back to back running elbows after running the ropes. Okada hits a DDT for a two-count. Okada hits a neckbreaker. Okada goes for another powerslam but Ospreay slips out. The fight on the apron and Okada’s dropkick sends Ospreay to the floor. Okada whips him into the barricade. Ospreay cuts off his charge with a dropkick.

Ospreay hits a moonsault from a tower as they get into the crowd. Back to the ring, Ospreay hits a flying forearm and a powerbomb for a near fall. Okada counters from a neckbreaker and nails an uppercut. Ospreay hits a step up enziguiri. Okada gets to the floor. Ospreay goes for Sasuke special but Okada catches him and hits a piledriver on the floor. Back to the ring, Okada hits a missile dropkick for a near fall.

Okada puts on the money clip but Ospreay drops Okada to break it. Okada hits an elbow drop. He goes for the rainmaker but Ospreay counters. Several reversal follow and the sequence ends with a sitout powerbomb and a near fall for Ospreay. Okada with a thrust kick as Okada is hung on the ropes. Ospreay hits a moonsault on the ropes and then a shooting star press on the mat to get a near fall.

Ospreay nails a forearm on the back of the head. Ospreay goes for a running forearm. Okada ducks it, but Ospreay hits him with a piledriver for a near fall. Okada hits stormbreaker for a near fall. Okada hits a dropkick but Ospreay counters the rainmaker with a standing spanish fly. Ospreay hits short arm lariats. He hits a cutter for another two-count. Okada hits a piledriver. Some more back and forth and Okada hits a lariat and then the rainmaker. But Ospreay kicks out of the pin.

Okada puts on the money clip. Ospreay counters with the rainmaker but could not capitalize. Both men are on the knees as they start trading strikes. They get to the feet slowly with the strikes going on. Okada gets the upper hand and hits two rainmaker back to back. Ospreay counters the third one with knee strike. Ospreay hits a sliding elbow on the back of the head to get a near fall.

More back and forth. Ospreay once again stops rainmaker with a knee strike. Ospreay charges with an elbow but Okada hits him with a dropkick and a falcon arrow. Okada hits rainmaker one more time to get the pin.

Winner – Kazuchika Okada(retains IWGP Heavyweight title)
