MJF retained his AEW World Championship by defeating Adam Cole at AEW All In 2023 PPV event.

The entire match was cinematic and infused with intense drama. Throughout the bout, MJF displayed some hesitation in delivering blows to Adam Cole, while Cole managed to inflict significant damage on him. Cole’s dominance was particularly evident in the first half of the match.

The main moment of the match was when both Cole and MJF simultaneously hit each other down with a double lariat, causing a double pinfall and resulting in a draw. Following this, Cole requested an additional 5 minutes in the match. In response, MJF proposed continuing the fight until a winner emerged.

Another pivotal moment of the match came when Cole ended up knocking out the referee inadvertently. MJF had the chance to use the Dynamite Diamond ring, but decided against it. Roderick Strong came out and hit MJF with a low blode. Cole then hit MJF with Panama Sunrise and the Boom. But, by the time the referee woke up and counted the pinfall, MJF was able to kick out.

Strong then threw in the AEW World Title belt, but Cole also decided not to use it. MJF then roll-up Cole into a cradle to get the pinfall and successfully retain the title. After the match, MJF tries to cheer Cole but Cole was full of frustration MJF then told Cole to hit him with the title, but Cole changed his mind and they hugged each other.

The match was set for AEW All In at the August 2 episode of AEW Dynamite, where both MJF and Cole acknowledged each other’s presence. During their interaction, MJF referred to Cole’s earlier promise of earning a title opportunity. MJF then produced a contract that Cole signed, leading to a match being officially scheduled for AEW All-In.

On the June 14 episode of AEW Dynamite, Cole participated in an AEW World Title Eliminator match against MJF, which ultimately concluded in a time-limit draw. After this, these two were paired up as a tag team for the Blind Eliminator tournament. They ended up becoming best friends and winning the tournament to earn a shot at AEW Tag Team Championship.

However, they were unable to secure the AEW tag team titles when they had the chance on the July 29 episode of Collision against FTR. MJF then handed Cole with the rematch that he asked for earlier at All In. Cole also convinced MJF to challenge for ROH Tag Team Championship which they won at the pre-show of All In 2023.
