WWE Extreme Rules: Daniel Cormier to be Referee in Rollins vs Riddle
UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier will be a special guest referee in Seth Rollins vs Matt Riddle Fight Pit match at WWE Extreme Rules 2022 event.
The news was first reported by Ariel Helwani and WWE has since confirmed that Daniel Cormier will be involved at Extreme Rules. More details on this will be shared on WWE RAW episode on October 3 episode.
Helwani also posted a statement from Daniel Cormier where he said,
“The Rollins-Riddle feud has gotten very intense and personal. There’s only one person qualified enough to oversee this brutal match at Xtreme Rules and it’s me. I’ll see you guys in Philly next Saturday.”

Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle have been a thorn to each other since July and have been involved in multiple brawls and match interruptions. Their match at Summerslam was postponed when Rollins injured Riddle’s neck with a stomp. Later, Rollins defeated Riddle at Clash at the Castle event last month. However, Riddle kept on pursuing a rematch and cost Rollins the United States title match against Lashley.
Rollins then agreed to a rematch, which Riddle proposed to be a Fight Pit match. It will be the second Fight Pit match in WWE. Riddle was also involved in the first Fight Pit match which was his last match in NXT on May 27, 2020, against Timothy Thatcher. WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle worked as the Special Guest Referee in that match.
Fight Pit match plays into Riddle’s MMA background as he competed in 13 matches in UFC over 6 years career. It is essentially a steel cage match. It is different from other cages with a platform on the top of the walls and one can only win this match via knockout or submission.
A commentator with UFC, Daniel Cormier will be getting involved in WWE for the first time as he steps in as the referee in Rollins vs Riddle clash. It will be interesting to see if this will lead to a program/storyline between Cormier and Riddle.
WWE Extreme Rules 2022 event will be taking place on October 8, 2022, at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. The event will feature several specialty matches like Ladder match, Strap match, I Quit Match, Donny Brookhouse match and Extreme Rules match. Keep tuned in for more news and updates.
