Claudio Castagnoli is set to defend ROH World Championship against Mark Briscoe at ROH Death Before Dishonor 2023 PPV event.

The match was agreed upon during this week’s ROH on Honor Club episode . The storyline started with the newly crowned NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Eddie Kingston assuring that his rival Castagnoli has a challenger while he is away in Japan for NJPW G1 Climax 33 tournament.

Kingston sent a message to his friend Mark Briscoe to challenge Castagnoli for ROH World Championship at Death Before Dishonor. Kingston told Briscoe that fans want to see him as the ROH World Champion. Briscoe was interviewed later in the show and said he always talked about winning ROH TV title, but now, it was his time to follow upon his later brother Jay Briscoe to become ROH World Champion.

Castagnoli was quick to interrupt him and told Briscoe that he would show him his limits as he had shown to Kingston. He added that the Mark Briscoe he knew would only fight side to side with his brother Jay, but was not to follow his footsteps. Castagnoli inferred that Mark has grown weak with time, while Castagnoli has hardened up with time.

Castagnoli added that he had to pull him down from the sky because it was his duty to show him his place. Castagnoli asked Briscoe to shake his hands if he still wanted a shot at ROH World title. Briscoe went on to shake hands to make the match official.

The match was also confirmed to be the main event for ROH Death Before Dishonor 2023. The show is set to take place on July 21, 2023, at Cure Insurance Arena in Trenton, NJ.
