ROH Death Before Dishonor 2023 event took place on July 21, 2023. This was going to be the second ROH PPV event in 2023 after Supercard of Honor 2023 event. It took place at Cure Insurance Arena in Trenton, New Jersey.

NOTES & STORYLINES

2023 edition of Death Before Dishonor was the 20th event in the series. This was the second time that the event took place under the ownership of Tony Khan/All Elite Wrestling.

Claudio Castagnoli(c) vs PAC – ROH World Championship

Eddie Kingston encouraged Mark Briscoe to go after Claudio Castagnoli for ROH title with a video message on ROH on Honor Club July 6 episode. Briscoe responded by agreeing to challenge followed by confrontation with Claudio to make the match official for Death Before Dishonor. Later on July 13, it was announced that Mark Briscoe is injured and a new opponent would be announced after Blood & Guts event.

PAC was in Blood & Guts match in Claudio’s Blackpool Combat Club but left the match in between after an argument with Claudio. After the match, Claudio was angry at PAC and issued him a challenge to face him at Death Before Dishonor. PAC accepted the challenge readily, and the match was made official by Tony Khan.

Samoa Joe(c) vs Dalton Castle – ROH Television Championship

ROH announced a Television Championship Eliminator Tournament on July 13 featuring 4 men with the winner of the tournament proceeding to face ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe at Death Before Dishonor. Dalton Castle defeated Tony Nese while Shane Taylor defeated Shawn Dean in the semifinal matches on July 13 ROH TV episode. Castle and Taylor would clash in the final on July 20 ROH TV episode. Castle beat Taylor on July 20 to secure a clash vs Joe.

Katsuyori Shibata(c) vs Daniel Garcia – Pure Rules Match for ROH Pure Championship

Daniel Garcia came out to confront ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata after his successful defense against Lee Moriarty at AEW Rampage episode of June 2, 2023. Later, they clashed in a tag team match where Garcia teamed up with Zack Sabre Jr. to beat Shibata & Orange Cassidy. They were also part of the match for AEW International title at Forbidden Door 2023 PPV where Cassidy retained the title. The match between them was announced via a press conference on July 15.

Athena(c) vs Willow Nightingale – ROH Women’s Championship

Willow Nightingale defeated Athena in the semifinal of 2023 Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. She won the tournament by beating Ruby Soho in the final. She was then announced to challenge Athena for ROH Women’s title at Death Before Dishonor. Athena won the first encounter between them to retain the title back in February this year.

Lucha Bros(c) vs Aussie Open vs The Kingdom vs Best Friends – ROH Tag Team Championship

Tony Khan announced that a fatal 4-way match would take place at Death Before Dishonor for ROH Team Team Championship. Lucha Bros(Rey Fenix & Pentagon Jr.) were announced to defend the title against Aussie Open(Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher), Best Friends(Trent Baretta & Chuck Taylor) and The Kingdom(Mike Bennett & Matt Taven).
