UFC 285: Mateusz Gamrot Replaces Dan Hooker Against Jalin Turner

Jalin Turner will face a higher-ranked opponent now as Dan Hooker is out, and Mateusz Gamrot is in to face him at UFC 285 PPV.

Dan Hooker and Jalin Turner were booked to open the main card at UFC 285. However, Turner has pulled out due to a broken hand. Mateusz Gamrot, who is ranked at #7 in UFC Lightweight Rankings, 3 spots above Hooker and 2 spots above Turner, has stepped in to face Turner on 3 weeks notice.

The news was first reported by Kanal Sportowy outlet. The lightweight is still expected to remain somewhere on the main card of PPV which is scheduled for March 4, 2023, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

Mateusz Gamrot is coming off a loss to Beniel Darius at UFC 280, which snapped his 4 fights winning streak. It was also just his second loss in UFC and MMA. The first loss he suffered was in his UFC debut against Guram Kutateladze.

Jalin Turner is currently on a 5-fights winning streak, which started in 2020. He suffered two losses between a win over Callan Potter to start his UFC career after graduating from the Dana White Contender series in 2018.

During the run, Turner has wins over Joshua Culibao, Brok Weaver, Uroš Medić, Jamie Mullarkey, and most recently, Brad Riddell at UFC 276.

Jon Jones vs Ciryl Gane bout for the vacant Heavyweight title is the main event along with Valentina Shevchenko’s flyweight title defense against Alexa Grasso in the co-main event. The other main card bouts are Bo Nickal vs Jamie Pickett and Geoff Neal vs Shavkat Rakhmonov.
