He actually won the vacant title by beating Glover Texeira at UFC 283 to kick off 2023. Texeira is Pereira’s mentor, and Pereira will be gunning for revenge definitely. He had a big 2023 where he started the year as the middleweight champion and ended the year as the light heavyweight champion.

Pereira beat a former champion in Jiri Prozachka to win the vacant title at UFC 295. Will he beat another former title holder Hill to make his first successful defense? Round 1: Pereira starts with a couple of outside leg kicks in the first 30 seconds. Hill lands an inside leg kick. They trade more kicks in the first minute. Hill threw the first jab but Pereira avoids it. Pereira lands a body kick. Hill lands a punch. Hill hits calf kicks now. Pereira replies with the same. He blocks a kick to the midsection. Pereira attempts jab at the body. He blocks body kicks. He mixes up the attack with calf kicks and jabs at the body. Hill also goes for body kicks and punches in between. Hill appears to have hit at Pereira’s groin at the start of the fourth minute. So, the referee tries to stop the fight, but Pereira signals him to let it go. Suddenly, Pereira lands a big left hook to drop Hill. After this, Pereira just batter Hill with uncountable shots on his head to force the referee to call for the stoppage.

Official Decision: Alex Pereira won via TKO(punches) at 3:14 in round 1.
