Aldana vs Penningon 2 Headliner & 3 More Bouts Set for UFC May 20
UFC has officially revealed the main event and several more bouts for UFC Vegas 73 Fight Night event on May 20, 2023,
A bantamweight rematch between Irene Aldana vs Raquel Pennington will headline the event which will take place at UFC Apex Arena in Las Vegas, NV. It is currently expected that the winner of this bout might be in line to challenge for UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship.
The bout was earlier reported to headline UFC San Antonio but the booking fizzled out with unknown reasons. The pair originally clashed in July 2019 where Pennington got a split decision win.
Pennington is currently ranked at #2 in the UFC women’s bantamweight ranking before former champion Julianna Pena. She is riding a 5-fights winning streak with Kaitlyn Viera being her latest victim in January this year. Aldana is ranked at #5 and has won 4 out of her 5 bouts since losing to Pennington.
The other bouts which were made official include two welterweight bouts in Andre Fialho vs Joaquin Buckley and Orion Cosce vs Gilbert Urbina. Victoria Leonardo vs Natalia Silva from women’s flyweight division was also made official.
A heavyweight bout between Ilir Latifi and Rodrigo Nascimento, which was previously reported, was also confirmed along with along with other previously announced bouts like Edmen Shahbazyan vs Anthony Hernandez and Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs Vanessa Demopoulos.
