WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2021 Results

Welcome to the live result blog for WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2021 event, which will feature five big title matches, including Roman Reigns vs. Cesaro for the Universal Championship and a triple threat match for WWE Championship between Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman.

WWE is hyping the chance of The Mysterios becoming the first father/son pair to win Tag Team titles in WWE as they face The Dirty Dawgs. Damian Preist has challenged The Miz for a Lumberjack match while Bianca Belair will face Bayley in her first title defense. Rhea Ripley will also look to consolidate her status as RAW Women’s Champion as she faces Asuka and Charlotte Flair.

  • Rhea Ripley(c) defeated Asuka and Charlotte Flair via pinfall in a Triple Threat Match to retain WWE RAW Women’s Championship.

WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2021 Kick-off Pre-Show

The panel welcomes us for the show- Kayla Braxton, WWE Hall of Famers – Booker T and JBL, and Peter Rosenberg. They discuss about Booker T’s A&E Documentary before moving on and running through the match card. US title open challenge will take place at kick-off show.

We get the video package for Roman Reigns vs Cesaro Universal Championship match and the drama between The Uso and Roman Reigns. The panel discuss all the drama going on, but concludes that this is not the night for Cesaro to win the title.

We get the package for WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship match between Bianca Belair and Bayley, starting with WrestleMania 37 vignettes and then moving on to the feud between Bianca and Bayley. Sonya Deville joins the panel to discuss this match. Sonya says Bianca has this match in the bag if she keeps her focus. Kayla reminds us that Bayley is the only women to pin Bianca on SmackDown since her arrival on the brand.

Backstage, The Dirty Dawgs – Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler – stop Dominik Mysterio. Dominik tries to slip out but they attack him. The officials try to break it up but The Dirty Dawgs have already done their work on Dominik.

Sheamus(c) vs Ricochet – WWE United States Championship Match

Sheamus takes the mic and calls out for an open challenge for the US title. Ricochet answers the challenge. Ricochet has a new ring gear. The bell rings, and Ricochet starts with a big dropkick. He hits a clothesline, but Sheamus no-sells it. Sheamus starts to beat him down now. Sheamus hits a few big blows to the back before throwing Ricochet around. Ricochet hits a kick and a forearm, but Sheamus hits a backbreaker to halt his momentum immediately.

Sheamus hits his signature blows to the chest at the apron. Sheamus rakes the face now. He puts on a shoulder stretch. Ricochet hits some punches and a headbutt before raining down with back elbows. Sheamus with a big blow to the back but Ricochet hits a step-up enziguiri. He drops Sheamus on the ropes before hitting a springboard clothesline. A springboard moonsault gets him a two-count. Sheamus counters a moves but ends up hitting a big knee.

Ricochet hits a backstabber. He goes to the top and hits a springboard splash to get a near fall. He misses a 630-splash and Sheamus hits the Brogue kick to get the win.

Winner – Sheamus(retains United States Championship)

After the match, Sheamus takes the mic once again and cuts a brief promo. Ricochet hits him with a dropkick and wears his coat to taunt him.

The panel now discuss the WWE championship match before the kick-off show comes to an end.

WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2021 Main Show

The RAW Women’s Championship will open the show.

Rhea Ripley(c) vs Asuka vs Charlotte Flair – Triple Threat Match, WWE RAW Women’s Championship

All three women enter one by one. Charlotte is giving strange looks to Rhea as she enters. The announcement gets done and we are ready to go. They are taking time to size up each other before starting. Flair moves out of the ring. Asuka and Rhea follow her. Flair returns back and kicks at Rhea. Asuka beats her from back and Rhea catches her of roll-up for a two-count. Flair goes out and Asuka hits a hip attack to get keep her out. Rhea and Asuka go at it in the ring. Asuka manages to take down Rhea but Flair sends her into the ring post before dropping her on the floor.

Flair enters the ring and has a staredown with Rhea. Rhea no-sells a shoulder tackle. Flair hits a body slam. Rhea sends her on the apron where Asuka catches her leg and Rhea drops her with a dropkick. Rhea hits a step up enziguiri as she was looking for a move from the top. Flair catches Rhea off-guard to drop her on the floor. Flair takes Asuka back into the ring now and keep her under control for a while.

A snapmare and a big kick get a two-count for Charlotte. Asuka fires up and hits a barrage of strikes. Asuka manages to put on an armbar. Flair reaches the ropes and somehow break the lock. Asuka puts on the armbar once again. Rhea breaks the lock. Flair sends Rhea into the turnbuckle. She hits Asuka with a few chops. Rhea hits a clothesline on Flair before hitting a dropkick on Asuka. Ripley drops Flair before bridging a German suplex into a pin attempt. Asuka breaks the pin and goes on to hit a big kick on Rhea.

Asuka with a series of German suplex on Flair. A hip attack to Rhea in the corner. Asuka hits kicks to both opponents. A sliding knee on Flair gets Asuka a two-count. Asuka hits big kicks on Rhea on the florr. Flair goes to take them both down with a moonsault from the top. Flair takes Asuka back to the ring and goes to the top again. Rhea stops her move and goes for the superplex. Asuka comes in and joins Rhea to hit superplex/tower of doom. All three women are down.

They trade strikes as they get back to their feet. Rhea hits headbutts on both opponents. Back and forth continue between them. Flair manages to turn a double suplex into double chop block and Natural Selection. She tries to pin both women but both Rhea & Asuka kick out. Flair goes to the top and misses the moonsault. Asuka hits the meteora on Flair. Asuka stops the riptide from Rhea. Flair comes in to drop Rhea. They go back and forth again. Asuka drops Flair with a hip attack and Rhea hits the riptide to get the pin on Asuka.

Winner – Rhea Ripley(retains RAW Women’s Championship)

After the bell, Flair is watching at Rhea from the floor. Rhea takes the title and celebrates.

The Miz and John Morrison are backstage. Miz talks about the Lumberjack match later today. Morrison says he will go to Lumberjack locker room and make them understand that it is in their interest that Miz wins the match.

The Dirty Dawgs(Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode)(c) vs The Mysterios(Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio) – WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match

We cut to the commentators, who takes us to the replay of Dominik getting beaten down by the Dirty Dawgs. We go to the medical room and Dominik is having a hard time getting on his feet. Rey says he has got it and Dominik should rest.

The Dirty Dawgs make their entrance. Rey Mysterio comes out on his own. Rey gets to the ring and the Dirty Dawgs are taunting him. Rey suddenly attacks as the bell goes off. Dropkicks to both opponents and more quick moves from Rey. Roode is the legal man for the other team. Rey and Roode go back and forth. Rey manages to take out Ziggler with a basement slide on the floor. Roode comes from behind to drop Rey to the floor.

Rey sends Roode into the steel steps. Rey drops Roode on the floor once again and waits for them to return to the ring. Rey manages to get a couple of pin attempts. Roode hits a big clothesline and tags in Ziggler who keeps control over Rey. Quick tags from the Dirty Dawgs keep Rey under pressure.

Roode with a vicious Irish Whip. Rey drops him to the corner with a drop toe hold. Roode manages to come back immediately. Ziggler hits with DDT on Rey’s leg. They continue to work on Rey’s leg. Ziggler comes in to hit the fameasser to get a near fall. Ziggler is getting frustrated now. Ziggler tags in Roode, who slides Rey into a superkick from Ziggler. The referee starts to count down as Rey is down on the floor. Rey manages to make his way to the ring at 9.

Roode with a headbutt. Ziggler comes in for a double suplex but it gets turned into a double DDT. Rey gets to his feet and he sends Roode into the post. He does the same thing to Ziggler also after countering a suplex attempt. All three men are down. Dominik is walking down the ring while selling his ribs. He gets to the corner and is asking for a tag. Rey does not tag him. He sets up Ziggler for the 619. He takes care of Roode. Ziggler comes from behind to hit another fameasser.

Roode and Ziggler once agin in control. Roode hits a backbreaker for a near fall. Roode climbs to the second rope with Rey on his shoulders. Rey fights back and hits a bulldog from the top. Dominik is asking for a tag. Rey tags out to Dominik. Roode hits a spinebuster on Dominik. Ziggler tags in for an assisted neckbreaker. Rey is in his corner again. Dominik is thrown into the corner. Ziggler gets ready for a superkick, but Dominik hits a superkick of his own and both men are down.

Hot tags to Rey and Roode. Rey hits a senton on Roode and drops Ziggler from the apron. Roode hits a backbreaker for another two-count. Roode goes for a powerbomb, but Rey drops him to the ropes and hits the 619. Rey tags in Dominik and hits a suicide dive on Ziggler on the floor. Dominik hits a splash from the top to get the pin.

Winners – The Mysterios(new SmackDown Tag Team Champions)

We see the trailer for Army of the Dead. John Morrison goes to the Lumberjack locker room. As he opens the door, we see many Zombies inside the rooms.

Jimmy Uso goes to Roman Reigns’ locker room. Jey Uso argues with him for a while on their ongoing tension. Roman Reigns comes up and Jimmy gives him best of luck for the match.

John Morrison goes to tell the Miz about how he just saw Zombies in the Lumberjack locker room. Miz says he is dreaming things. They go to enter for the match. We see the Zombies making their way out. The commentators also talk about Zombies now. Corey Graves gives us the tweet from Batista who tells us that he will not be at Backlash tonight but some of his friends will be there.

Damian Priest vs The Miz(w/ John Morrison) – Lumberjack Match

Miz and John Morrison enter. Damian Priest also makes his entrance now. We see the Zombies making their way to the ringside. All three of them terrified. The zombies surround the ring and also terrify the announcers but they settle back in at the table. Morrison has ran away to the back.

The ring is surrounded by zombies and smoke now. There are also graphics all over the arena, apparently representing the city setting from the “Army of the Dead” movie. The match begins as Priest and Miz go at it. Miz misses a dropkick and lands on the floor, surrounded by zombies. He runs back in and tuns around to a big Facebuster from Priest. Priest ends up on the floor but he attacks the zombies. He runs back in and Miz levels him with a big boot for a 2 count. Miz keeps control and delivers another big boot.

Priest ends up delivering a huge clothesline after Miz finds himself in trouble with the zombies and runs back in. Priest unloads with kicks now, then a right hand. Priest levels Miz for a close 2 count. More back and forth between the two. Priest keeps control and looks to finish Miz off but Miz catches strikes and takes him down for the Figure Four in the middle of the ring.

Miz gets under the ring now. Zombies throw him back in and Damian hits a lariat. Damian with a flurry of strikes to get a two-count. A flying elbow in the corner before he goes to the top to hit a spinning heel kick to get another two-count. Miz was able to take him down and puts on the figure four leg lock. The Zombies pulls them both out. Both Miz and Priest got otattack the Zombies now. They take down several Zombies on thr floor. Damian takes down a big Zombie before getting back to the ring. He hits the borker arrow to get a two-count.

Damian goes the chokeslam but Morrison comes in to cause a distraction. Miz hits a running knee for a near fall. Morrison takes out some of the Zombies with a moonsault. However, he gets overpowered by other set of Zombies. Damian hits the clap bell and the Lights Out to get the win.

Winner – Damian Priest

After the match, Damian Priest exits the ring as the Zombies creep over The Miz.

Bianca Belair(c) vs Bayley – WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship Match

The bell rings and Belair taunts Bayley to start. Bayley stalls some as the crowd chants “EST!” now. They lock up and trade holds. Belair shoves Bayley out of the ring but she comes right back in. More back and forth between the two. Belair grounds Bayley on the mat now. Bayley fights free from a hold on their feet, trying to use the hair. Belair threatens to swing the hair at Bayley. They run the ropes and trade holds some more. Bayley with a 2 count. Belair taunts Bayley from the corner again. Belair delivers a big dropkick for a pop, then kips up.

Belair keeps control and launches Bayley into the turnbuckles, and again. Belair continues taunting Bayley while she’s down. Belair slams Bayley to the mat from the apron. Bayley rolls to the floor to regroup as Belair has dominated the first several minutes of the match. Belair chases Bayley around the ring. Belair runs over Bayley with a shoulder.

Belair brings it back into the ring and nails a springboard moonsault for a 2 count. Bayley pleads with Belair to hold off. She suckers Belair in and grabs her ear ring, then rocks her. Bayley beats Belair down and unloads on her as fans boo. Bayley whips Belair hard into the turnbuckles and she goes down. Bayley ends up nailing a back suplex for a 2 count. Bayley with more offense to keep control. Bayley tries to suplex Belair to the floor but Belair counters and brings Bayley in from the apron with a big suplex for a pop.

Bayley with a close roll-up out of nowhere for 2. They go to the floor and Bayley slams Belair over the steel ring steps. Bayley drops Belair with a suplex on the floor and brings her back in for another close pin attempt. More back and forth now. Bayley scoops Belair on her shoulders but Belair tries to counter. This is botched, by both competitors apparently, for a 2 count by Bayley.

Belair powers out of a pin which sends Bayley out of the ring. Bayley returns immediately and is angrier. She slams Bianca a few times to the mat. She waits for Bianca to get to her feet. Bianca fires us and beats down on Bayley. Some quick moves from Bianca. She hits a dropkick, leapfrogs in the corner and manages to hit a spinebuster to get a two-count.

Bianca goes for the KOD. Bayley counters with back elbow. She hit a clothesline and then an elbow drop to get a near fall. Bayley goes a slidiing dropkick. Bianca catcher her but Bayley kicks at her face before slamming her into the ringpost. She follows Bianca out of the ring but gets dropped on the floor. Bianca drops her on the apron now. Back in the ring, Bayley gets a two-count via crucifix. Bayley rolls up Bianca and tries to use the ropes for advantage. The referee sees that and stops the count.

Bayley rakes the eyes and gets hold on Bianca’s braids to hit the Belly to Belly suplex. Bayley tries to use the braids to slam her face into the mat finisher. Bianca turns it around and uses her braids to advantage to get the pin.

Winner – Bianca Belair(retains SmackDown Women’s Championship)

– After the match, Belair goes right to the floor and stands tall with the title as her music hits. Bayley is shocked in the ring. Bayley goes to the announce table and yells at Cole and McAfee. She calls for a replay to show how her leg was wrapped up, calling Belair a cheater. Belair continues celebrating on the stage.

Bobby Lashley(c) vs Drew McIntyre vs Braun Strowman – Triple Threat Match for WWE Championship

Lashley tries to get McIntyre to attack Strowman. But Strowman runs over both of them. Lashley htis a flatliner on Strowman. McIntyre also joins him on the attack on Strowman. Lashley and McIntyre combine to hit a vertical suplex on Strowman. Lashley and McIntyre go at it now. McIntyre hits a belly to belly suplex. McIntyre hits Glasgow kiss on Strowman. Lashley pulls McIntyre out of the ring and tackles him against the barricade. Lashley goes to send him into the ring post but McIntyre slips out. Strowman takes out both of them with a dive. Strowman takes Lashley back to the ring and hits a chokeslam to get a near fall.

Lashley counters the powerslam but McIntyre flies in to take them both down. Strowman misses the tackle in the corner. McIntyre hits a clothesline from the top on Lashley. McIntyre hits the zig-zag on Strowman and Lashley has to break the pin. Lashley with a suplex throw on McIntyre and then a spinebuster on Strowman. Lashley covers but Strowman kicks out. Lashley throws McIntyre into the barricade. He goes and sends McIntyre head first into the ring post. Strowman attacks Lashley with the steel steps.

McIntyre runs in with a Claymore kick to send Strowman over the barricade. McIntyre and Lashley fight up the ramp. McIntyre slams Lashley’s face into the steel steps. He sets up for suplex but Lashley counters to hit a suplex of his own. Lashley tries to suplex McIntyre into the LED board. McIntyre avoids it and hits Glasgow kiss. McIntyre sends Lashley through the LED board and down from the platform. McIntyre gets a roar out. He goes to check Lashley but he is nowhere to be found.

Strowman runs over McIntyre at the stage. He brings back McIntyre near the ring and hits another running tackle. Back in the ring, Strowman hits a senton to get a near fall. McIntyre counters the suplex but eats a bit right hand. McIntyre hits a michonoku driver on Strowman to get a near fall. They get back to their feet and Strowman throws McIntyre out to the floor. Strowman goes the running tackle but McIntyre hits him with Belly to Belly suplex on the floor.

McIntyre goes for the Claymore but Strowman catches him and drops him on the announce table with a powerbomb. Strowman gets to his feet first. He picks up McIntyre and takes him back to the ring. Strowman goes for the powerslam but McIntyre hits the claymore kick. Lashley runs in and throws McIntyre out of the ring. Lashley quickly hits a spear on Strowman to get the pin and the win.

Winner – Bobby Lashley(retains WWE Championship)

Lashley and MVP celebrate in the ring after the bell. McIntyre is watching from the floor. Strowman is recovering on the floor.

Roman Reigns(c) vs Cesaro – WWE Universal Championship Match

Cesaro enters for the match after we get the hype package. Jey Uso is hyping Roman Reigns at the Gorilla. Roman tells him to stay back and look for his brother Jimmy.

Roman starts with caution. They lock up and try to get the control but neither men is able to overpower the other. The referee breaks them up. They lock up again and Roman is able to get Cesaro into a headlock and down to the floor. Roman with a sholder tackle and a pin attempt before another headlock. They run the ropes and Cesaro leap frogs before hitting a big shoulder tackle. Roman slips out to the floor for a breather.

Roman gets back to the apron now and takes time to return to the ring. Cesaro goes for the waistlock but Roman hits a back elbow. Roman slams his face into the turnbuckle. Cesaro hits a flying uppercut from the springboard. Cesaro goes for the sharpshooter but Roman avoids it and Cesaro is thrown out of the ring. Cesaro is selling his shoulder. Cesaro gets back in the ring and trades strikes with Roman. Roman drops him with a big shot. Roman throws him into the ring post, hurting his shoulder more.

Roman slams Cesaro’s face into the announce table for a couple of times. Roman applies a chinlock back in the ring. Cesaro gets to his feet and goes for the suplex. Roman counters to hit a snap suplex. Cesaro is selling his shoulder. Roman hits big right hands now. Cesaro fights back from another chinlock. Roman slams him down to the mat once again for a one-count. Cesaro comes back with some punches but Roman drops him again. Roman goes for the Superman punch but Cesaro hits the pop-up uppercut.

Cesaro starts a uppercut train before dropping Roman with a big running boot. Cesaro works on Roman’s legs now. He locks on the sharpshooter. Roman reaches the ropes to force the break. Roman rolls out of the ring and Cesaro hits a corkscrew plancha. He takes Roman back to the ring but Roman slips out from the other side. Cesaro drives him into the barricade and takes him back to hit an splash to get a two-count.

Roman is able to counter with big uppercuts as Cesaro goes to the top. Roman hits a big boot as Cesaro hangs on the turnbuckle. Cesaro is at the floor, checking his arm. Roman hits the drive-by dropkick to send him into the ring post. Roman takes him back to the ring to get a two-count. Roman works on the bad arm again. Roman taunts Daniel Bryan as he works on Cesaro’s arm. Cesaro decks him but Roman drops him with a clothesline.

Roman is still in control and continue to beat down Cesaro. The referee has to stop Roman from unloading in the corner. Cesaro comes back with uppercuts and big boot. He is also selling his arm continously. A big uppercut drops Roman to the mat. Roman punches Cesaro and Cesaro hits a headbutt. Cesaro uses his other arm for uppercuts but ultimately has to get back to his injured arm for uppercuts. Cesaro goes to hit a superplex on Roman to get a near fall. Cesaro goes to work on Roman’s legs again.

Roman turns it around and puts Cesaro into a crossface. Cesaro gets to the ropes. Cesaro goes for the corkscrew uppercut but Roman catches him with the Superman punch. Roman covers but Cesaro kicks out of a near fall. Roman goes for the spear but Cesaro cuts him off. Roman immediately puts on the Guillitone choke. Cesaro overpowers him to break the move. Cesaro puts on the sharpshooter now. Roman slips to near the ropes. Cesaro turns into the crossface. Roman breaks the lock by hitting at Cesaro’s injured arm. Roman goes to hit the powerbomb now for another near fall.

Roman rains down more punches on Cesaro. Roman gets the front facelock on. Cesaro makes it hard for him. Roman goes for the Guillitone again. Cesaro powers up but could not do much other than forcing Roman to try again. Roman fails to lock the Guillitone lock again as Cesaro uses his power to move to prevent the move. Roman finally gets the Guillitone on and Cesaro is put to sleep.

Winner – Roman Reigns(retains Universal Championship)

After the match, Jey Uso comes out with bestow Roman Reigns with a Garland. Cesaro gets back to senses and asks the referee what happened. Jey asks Roman to allow him to finish Cesaro. Roman nods and Jey attacks Cesaro. Jey gets to the top for the Uso Splash but he gets interrupted by Seth Rollins’ music. Rollins comes out and have a stare down with Roman. His expressions change and now he is smilling at Roman. Rollins attacks Cesaro now and work on his arm. Rollins brutally attacks Cesaro’s shoulders and arms, and continues to shout at him. Rollins now hits Cesaro with the steel chair. Finally, Rollins hits the stomp on Cesaro’s shoulder with the steel chair wrapped around it. The show goes off the air.
