WWE SmackDown episode of May 6, 2022, will be the go-home edition of WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2022. It will continue the buildup for the upcoming PLE and will air live from the Nassau Veteran Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, NY. 

Sasha Banks will fight against Shayna Baszler in a singles action whereas the team of Sheamus & Ridge Holland will face the New Day in a tables match. The Bloodline will have a face-off with Drew McIntyre and RK-Bro before their match at WrestleMania Backlash.

Charlotte and Ronda

The show starts with a recap of the storyline between Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey including the “I Quit” Beat the Clock Challenge last week. The commentators tell us that Charlotte Flair will face Aliyah. Aliyah is in the ring. Charlotte makes her entrance and takes the mic. She says she was screwed last week against Aliyah, claiming that Aliyah clearly said “I Quit” before the time ran out and it was Drew Gulak’s fault. She takes shots at Ronda saying she will be crying her way back to home.

She comes back at Aliyah and asks her if she is enjoying 15 seconds fame. Flair says she will treat Aliyah as Ronda. She asks Aliyah to come face to face with her and decks her with a punch. Flair continues to unload on her in ground and pound. Ronda’s music hits and she runs out. Flair meets her at the ramp to start brawling with her. Ronda forces Flair to get away from her. Flair sends Ronda into the barricade with her momentum.

Crew members come out and try to separate them, but they are having hard time containing Ronda. Ronda is separated from Flair once but she attacks her again and throws more punches. They are finally separated for good.

We get the recap of how Shayna Baszler injured Naomi’s shoulder last week. Sasha Banks come out for the match. Naomi has a plaster on her left arm.

Sasha Banks vs Shayna Baszler

Sasha kicks at Baszler from the corner. She hits a Meteora and unloads with punches on the mat. Sasha is attacking Shanya’s arm. She goes for joint manipulation on the arm. Baszler puts on an arm bar. Sasha gets in a pin attempt by rolling up Baszler in that position for a two-count. Baszler keeps the hold on. Sasha gets to her feet and comes out of the lock. Baszler hits a gutwrench suplex as Natalya distracts Sasha. Baszler misses a knee in the corner. She counters Sasha and hits a side slam to take us to a break.

Baszler has a double wristlock on as we return. Banks starts to fight back. She hits dropkick to send Shanya to the floor. She slips out with a slide and slams Shayna’s arm into the announce desk. Back to the ring, Sasha hits a Meteora. Sasha goes to work the arm. Baszler counters with shots at the body. Sasha hits a wheelbarrow bulldog. Sasha hits Neidhart with a headscissors on the floor. Shanya counters with a small package and Natalya holds Shanya’s leg to assist in the pin.

Winner – Shayna Baszler

Naomi gets into the ring to protest with Sasha over the finish. Shayna and Natalya try to attack but Naomi and Sasha work in tandem to send them packing.

The Usos are interviewed backstage. They say that the time for talking is done. They call Riddle a fool with a foot in his mouth. They hype the Bloodline.

RK-Bro are interviewed now and are asked about The Usos’ comments. Riddle says The Usos are fools to think he will take his own foot in his mouth. Randy Orton says The Usos always run their mouths and fires a warning for WrestleMania Backlash.

Happy Talks with Corbin

We get a recap of the storyline between Happy Corbin and Madcapp Moss. Corbin makes his entrance for the Happy Talks Segment.

After the break, we see the footage of Moss attacking Corbin last week and taking back the Andre the Giant Trophy. Corbin says this footage is not gonna make him sad and he will beat Moss at WrestleMania Backlash. Moss appears on the big screen and starts cracking joke on Corbin’s attire and his tattoos. Corbin rebutes by saying that Moss does not have guts to come and face him.

Moss gets away from the screen and makes his entrance. Moss takes the mic and talks about Corbin’s different phases in WWE like Constable Corbin, Manager Corbin, Broke Corbin and Happy Corbin. Moss names Corbin a Big Bald Wolf. He gets the crowd to chant it. Corbin is embarrassed and leaves the ring.

We get the recap of Drew Gulak trying several different roles on Smackdown in last few weeks. He is back to being a competitor tonight. He is in the ring for his match. We cut to a break.

Back from the break, Gulak is still in the ring. Ludwig Kaiser comes to the stage and introduces Gunther, who will face Gulak.

Drew Gulak vs Gunther

Gulak tries to unload on Gunther, but Gunther puts on an arm wringer and pushes him to the mat. Gunther hits a big blow to his back to stun Gulak. A couple of big chops follow. Gulak is put over the top turnbuckle, and Gunther hits another big chop. Gunther briefly puts on a sleeper hold before hitting a powerbomb to get the pin.

Winner – Gunther

Drew McIntyre is backstage for an interview. Drew says he has only seen The Bloodline running their mouth, not throwing their punches. Drew says the fans will get to see Head of the Table’s head getting kicked off his body.

We see the recap of Rick Boogs getting injured at WrestleMania 38 and how Shinsuke Nakamura confronted The Bloodline after it. Megan Morant is interviewing Nakamura backstage. Nakamura says The Bloodline hurt his friend Boogs and then jumped on him. He hasn’t forgotten about that. Nakamura says he will get a piece of Roman Reigns when the time is right. Sami Zayn was eavesdropping on this.

New Day vs Fight Night – Tables Match

The match starts as some brawling. Sheamus unloads on the corner on Wood. Woods hits a powerslam on him. Kofi and Holland fights on the floor. Woods kicks Sheamus out of the ring. Holland attacks him from behind. Kofi jumps from the top with a clothesline. Double team work from New Day to keep control. Sheamus pulls out Kofi to beat him up but Woods jumps on him.

New Day hits Sheamus with a table in the midsection. They setup a table in the ring and go to suplex Holland into it, but Sheamus pushes the table away. Sheamus goes to powerbomb Kofi into a table but Woods stops him. More back and forth action until Sheamus is sent to the floor again. Kofi hits a crossbody to take Sheamus through the barricade.

Sheamus hits a big blow to Woods’ back. He goes for his signature blows to the chest against the ropes. Holland hits Woods with a spinebuster on the floor. Kofi avoids being put through the table. He hits a kick to Sheamus and SOS to Holland. Kofi hits Sheamus’ signature blows to the chest on him. Sheamus hits back with Air Raid Crash. Woods attacks him with some quick kicks.

Back to the ring, Woods with more quick attack on Holland. He sets up Holland on the table and goes to the top. Sheamus stops his drop. Kofi attacks Sheamus and drops him to the floor. Kofi clears the announce table. He hits a double stomp on Sheamus. Butch appears from underneath the ring and attacks both New Day members. This helps Sheamus and Holland to put Woods through the table with a powerbomb.

Winner – Fight Night

Kayla Braxton goes to interview Paul Heyman and talks about Drew McIntyre’s comment. Heyman asks her if she is trying to rile him up. Sami Zayn enters and Kayla goes away on seeing him. Sami tells Paul about Nakamura still hung up on Roman Reigns and the Usos. He comes to warn Roman Reigns of the danger. Heyman says Roman will appreciate Sami’s initiative. Sami says this will bring his credibility back and he will take care of Nakamura.

We get another pre-recorded promo from Lacey Evans who wraps her story of getting into WWE. After the promo, Lacey makes her entrance to the stage to get some claps from the crowd.

Sami Zayn vs Shinsuke Nakamura

Back and forth start as Sami ducks a kick. Sami puts on a side headlock. Nakamura goes for an armbar but Sami hits a kick to Nakamura’s head.
Nakamura takes him down with kicks to the head. Sami hits back with an elbow. Sami keeps control near the ropes. Nakamura cuts him off with a knee. He goes to drop Sami with kicks and stomps and an enzuigiri. Nakamura goes for kinshasa but Sami hits back with Michinoku driver to get a near fall. We cut to a break.

Sami is in control and puts on a chinlock. Nakamura slams him to the corner. Sami hits an elbow from the second rope to get a two-count. Nakamura cuts off another elbow drop with a body kick. Nakamura kicks Sami away and then hits his shin on Sami’s neck. Nakamura hits several side kicks and punches. He counters Sami to put him in an armbar. Sami rolls him up in a pin attempt to get a two-count.

Nakamura nails him with an overhead kick. He gets ready for Kinshasa but Sami runs out of the ring. Nakamura goes to the floor and Nakamura hits him with a dropkick. Sami scurries away and manage to drop Nakamura on the barricade. Sami runs back to the ring and beats the referee’s count to get a win.

Winner – Sami Zayn(by count-out)

The Face-Off

RAW Tag Team Champions RK-Bro come out before the break. Drew McIntre follows them after. Drew gives props to Long Island and tells them to acknowledge him, mocking Roman Reigns. Riddle interrupts to acknowledge that Orton is his best friend. Orton acknowledges he still has Drew’s hand-print on his chest from two years ago. They continue to acknowledge many thing with Drew finally acknowledging that Roman is the biggest piece of crap walking on the Earth. Fans cheer on this.

Roman Reigns’ music hits and he comes out with The Usos and Paul Heyman. The move into the ring after a brief staredown on the ramp. They get into the ring a brawl breaks out. Usos send RK-Bro to the floor. Reigns hits Drew with a Superman Punch. Usos hold Drew now as Roman unloads on him. Riddle runs in and hits Jey Uso with RKO, and Orton does the same to Jimmy. Drew drops Reigns with a Claymore Kick. The Bloodline runs away to the floor. Two teams yell at each other to close the show.

Shayna Baszler vs Sasha Banks: Last week Naomi defeated Shayna Baszler with a quick pin after which Baszler and Natalya attacked Naomi and Sasha Banks. This week, Shayna Baszler will face the other half of the women’s tag-team champion Sasha Banks. 

Sheamus & Ridge Holland vs Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods: Sheamus & Ridge Holland are feuding with the New Day for quite a while now. Butch has attacked New Day on sight and then the two teams engage in a war. This week, they will try to settle their disputes once and for all when they face each other in a tables match.

What’s Next for Bloodline: Roman Reigns faced embarrassment on RAW this week as Drew McIntyre and RK-Bro stood tall in the brawl between them. They face-off at this show. What does Roman Reigns have in mind for a revenge?
