WWE SmackDown episode of December 17, 2021, is all set to mark the return of the WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns. The event will air live from the Allstate Arena, Chicago, IL, US.

No matches have been announced for the next episode of the blue brand so far. However, it is certain that the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns will return and continue his feud with Brock Lesnar. The show will also continue the build-up for WWE’s upcoming PPV event Day 1.

Roman Reigns Returns: The latest episode of SmackDown confirmed that Roman Reigns would make his return to the island of relevancy next week. He will likely cut a promo on Brock Lesnar to build up his match against him at WWE Day 1. 

Day 1 Build-up: The next episode of SmackDown will continue the build-up for the next PPV event. The feud between Toni Storm and Charlotte Flair will get even more personal. Meanwhile, the New Day will continue to prove that they are the best tag team of WWE after defeating the tag-team champions of both brands on last week’s episode in a triple threat match.

Charlotte Flair & Shotzi vs Sasha Banks & Toni Storm

Toni puts on a headlock to start. They trade holds on the mat now. Shotzi works on Toni’s arm. Storm breaks free and hits a big kick. Sasha tags in and avoids double team attack. Flair and Sasha lock. Sasha kicks at her from the turnbuckle and then hits her with a hurricanrana. Storm tags in for a double team. Back and forth between Flair and Storm. Shotzi breaks a pin on Flair and drops Toni to the floor as we cut to a commercial.

Sasha catches Shotzi’s kick and brings her down. Sasha drops Flair from the apron but turns to a big shot from Shotzi. Flair tags in and sends Sasha into the barricade. Flair puts on a chinlock. Sasha hits a jawbreaker but Flair hits a backbreaker for a two-count. Shotzi hits double knees. Storm hits atomic drops on Shotzi and then unloads in the corner with kicks. Flair takes the blind tag and suplexes Storm out of the ring. We cut to another break.

Storm kicks off Flair and tags in Sasha. Sasha drops Flair and then drops Shotzi from the apron. Sasha hits a crossbody on Flair before running knee strikes in the corner for a two-count. Sasha and Flair trade strikes now. Back and forth action before Sasha hits a bulldog. Sasha hits a backstabber on Shotzi as Storm tags in.

Storm hits Flair with a crossbody from the top to get a near fall. Flair sends her into the turnbuckle now. Toni gets her knees up as Flair goes for the moonsault and puts Flair in the jacknife cover for the pin and the win.

Winner – Toni Storm & Sasha Banks

Kings Xavier Woods and Sir Kofi Kingston are backstage with Ricochet, Mansoor, Drew Gulak, Rick Boogs and Shinsuke Nakamura. Woods is sitting on his new throne with his new crown. The Usos walk up for some trash talk. New Day tells them they will defeat them tonight and then at WWE Day 1 to become the new champions. The Usos fire back with the same comment.

The Viking Raiders(Erik & Ivar) vs Jinder Mahal and Shanky

The match has already started as we return from the break. The Vikings are working on Jinder. Jinder hits a knee to Erik’s midsection. Shanky tags in and hits a sidewalk slam. He slams Erik into the corner and hits back elbows. Erik hits punches but Shanky hits a big slap to the chest and runs him over with a clothesline. Jinder tags in and beat down Erik in the corner.

Erik rolls through and tags in Ivar. Ivar hits a tackle, side slam and a crossbody on Mahal. Ivar cartwheels out of an attack and drops Mahal. Erik tags in and slams Ivar on Jinder for a two-count. Shanky tags in and so does Ivar. Vikings double team on Shanky in the corner. Ivar hits a splash from the top to get the pin on Shanky.

Winners – The Viking Raiders

We see how Drew McIntyre stabbed his sword into Adam Pearce’s desk last week after Pearce told him to not carry it to the match. Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss had stolen that desk. We see them dragging the desk backstage and it will be on Happy Talks next.

Paul Heyman is waiting for Roman Reigns in the parking lot. An SUV enters but it was Brock Lesnar who comes out of it. Heyman tells him that he was expecting someone else. Lesnar asks him him if he was waiting for Roman and wishes him good luck for that.

Happy Talk with Drew’s Sword

We are in the ring for Happy Talks edition. Corbin talks about Drew’s Sword being a highly functional piece of equipment. Madcap Moss tells his lame jokes on Drew. They both then try to remove the sword from the desk but fails to remove it. The scene is a bit like Thor’s Hammer scene from Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Drew McIntyre’s music hits and he comes out to the apron. Moss tries to attacks him but Drew hits him with the microphone. Drew sends both Corbin and Moss to the floor and then removes the sword from the desk. McIntyre poses in the corner as the segment ends.

Sami Zayn goes to Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville backstage. He asks when will he get another shot at Universal Championship and reminds us how Lesnar attacked him before his title match. Pearce says they can give him something else. They announce a special 12 days of Christmast 12 men Gauntlet Match for next week’s SmackDown. The winner will get a WWE Intercontinental Title shot. Sami is pissed that he is not getting title shot right away and had to work the match.

Cesaro vs Ridge Holland(w/ Sheamus)

Ridge Holland shoves Cesaro in the ribs before the bell after a distraction from Sheamus. Cesaro is checked by the referee as we cut to a break.

Cesaro has got his ribs tapped and enters the ring. Holland tackles him to the corner as the bell rings. Holland drops him on his knee. Holland stretches his back for a while. Holland then puts on an abdominal stretch. Cesaro drops him with a back suplex. Cesaro unloads in the corner and then clotheslines him to the floor. He hits a running uppercut to send Holland in the timekeeper’s area.

Holland is thrown back to the ring. Sheamus runs another distraction and this gives Holland an opportunity to hit a power slam to get the pin and the win.

Winner – Ridge Holland

Drew McIntyre is searching for Corbin and Moss backstage.

Naomi vs Shayna Baszler

Naomi is in the ring and talks about her Christmas wishlist. It has only one thing on it- to face Sonya Deville one-on-one. She calls out Sonya for a match. Sonya comes out and tells Naomi to respect her while she has the official coat on. She has an opponent for Naomi for tonight in Shayna Baszler. Naomi dares her to step into the ring with her.

Sonya steps in and distracts Naomi as Shayna attacks her from behind. Shayna attacks Naomi’s leg. Baszler beats Naomi while she’s down, focusing on her knee. Deville tells the referee to ring the bell to start the match. Baszler puts on a leg submission. Naomi tries to grab the ropes but Baszler pulls her back. Naomi counters and rolls Baszler up for the pin.

Winner – Naomi

Sonya watches from the floor in surprise. Naomi exits while taunting Sonya on the ramp.

Megan Morant finds Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss hiding in the dark. They shout at her when she gets the lights turned on. Megan asks about Drew and Corbin replies that they will be laughing all the way to New Year’s when Moss beats Drew at WWE Day 1. Moss looks tense at the announcement.

New Day vs The Usos

Kofi hits SOS early in the match. Jey pushes him into the ropes and to a kick from Jimmy. Jimmy comes in and work on him in the corner. Jimmy puts on a chinlock. Kofi gets to his feet and superkicks Jimmy. Kofi tags to Woods but the referee did not see it and stops Woods from getting into the match. Usos work on Kofi on the floor and send him into the steel steps as we cut to a break.

We return from the break and Kofi finally tags out. Woods comes in and runs rampant on both opponents. Woods takes him out with a side-Russian leg sweep and follows with a dropkick. Woods hits a leg drop to get a near fall. Jimmy hits an enziguire and then attack both opponents on the floor.

Kofi is the legal man now. Jimmy stops SOS and Trouble in Paradise before hitting him with a superkick. Jey tags in and goes to the top but the referee did not see him tag. Kofi pushes Jey from the top turnbuckle to the floor. Jimmy was arguing with the referee about the tag and Kofi hits him Trouble In Paradise to get the pin.

Winner – New Day

On Whose Side Paul Heyman Is?

Roman Reigns makes his entrance with Paul Heyman and the Usos. Roman asks the Chicago crowd to acknowledge him. The crowd is booing him now. Roman says he does not like it when the Usos lose, but they are family and they can get through anything because they are blood.

Roman then asks Heyman once again whether he can trust him. He took off last week but he knows how shady Heyman was. Roman asks him whether he knew Brock was gonna be at SummerSlam, then at Maddison Square Garden and did he know Brock’s suspension will be lifted. Roman finally asks him whether he is a special counsel to him or Brock’s advocate.

The crowd chants advocate as Heyman looks nervous. Heyman takes the mic and is almost in tear. His expression change a bit. Roman then asks him to acknowledge him with the truth and tells him why is he protecting Brock Lesnar from him. Heyman tells him that he is not protecting Lesnar from Roman, but he is protecting Roman from Lesnar.

Roman thanks him for his honesty and his services to his family and fires him. Roman nails Heyman with a superman punch. Roman gets in a steel chair and sets up Heyman’s head on it. Brock Lesnar’s music hits and he comes out. Roman sends Usos to deal with him on the floor but Lesnar hits them both with F5s. Lesnar enters the ring and Roman greets him with chair shots. Lesnar counters and hits Roman with F5. Lesnar hits another F5. The show ends with Lesnar standing tall.
