Rhea Ripley’s first title defense for WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship is set for WWE Backlash 2023 event.

Zelina Vega gets a world title shot in the country of her ancestors as WWE Backlash is set to take place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on May 6, 2023.

Vega and Ripley have faced off in several brawls as part of the rivalry between Judgment Day and Latino World Order(earlier Legado Del Fantasma). Zelina countered Rhea during last week’s match between Damian Priest and Santos Escobar and sent her into the barricade with her signature hurricanrana.

This week on SmackDown April 21 episode, Zelina went to WWE Official Adam Pearce and asked him to book her against Rhea for SmackDown Women’s Championship. Zelina said she was the only woman in WWE Roster from Puerto Rican descent and she wanted to prove everyone wrong who have held her back due to her height.

Adam Pearce told her that he would take the matter to upper management and Rhea Ripley. The match was later confirmed by the commentary team along with Seth Rollins vs Omos and US title triple threat match between Austin Theory, Bronson Reed and Bobby Lashley.

Rhea Ripley won WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship after beating Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39. She got the opportunity after winning the 2023 women’s Royal Rumble match. Keep tuned in for more news and updates from WWE.
