Braun Strowman is added to the WWE Championship match between Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania Backlash 2021 PPV.
Drew McIntyre became the #1 contender for WWE Championship after he won a triple threat match on WWE RAW episode of 12 April 2021 involving Randy Orton and Braun Strowman. He was then scheduled to get his title shot at WrestleMania Backlash 2021 PPV.
Strowman and McIntyre teamed up last week after Strowman came out to make the save on McIntyre against T-Bar & Mace. WWE announced their tag team rematch against T-Bar & Mace once again this week. Before the match though, Strowman & McIntyre got into an argument which resulted in the Monster Among Men taking on the former Retribution members.
That proved inconsequential as McIntyre had to come out save Strowman from a double team beating in a repeat from last week’s sequence. A tag team match followed which saw McIntyre inadvertently taking out Strowman with a clothesline and losing the match via count-out.
The Scottish Psychopath then asked Adam Pearce for a singles match against Strowman. Strowman, in turn, asked that if he wins against McIntyre, he should be added to the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania Backlash 2021.
The match took place in the main event with Bobby Lashley & MVP at the ringside as they wanted to keep the match a singles affair rather than a triple threat match. MVP and Lashley’s distraction saved McIntyre once from a power slam. McIntyre had hit Strowman with a futureshock DDT and was about to hit Claymore when T-Bar & Mace interfered.
As McIntyre got distracted, Strowman scooped him up for a running powerslam to get the win. The show ended with both Strowman & McIntyre facing off in the ring and staring down at Lashley who was over the announce table.
