Welcome to the live results blog for AEW Dynamite September 13, 2023, which was live from Heritage Bank Center in Cincinatti, OH, on the road to WrestleDream 2023 and Grand Slam 2023.

Two important matches with the consequences for Grand Slam were on the card. Roderick Strong and Samoa Joe fought over the right to challenge MJF for AEW World Championship next week. Hikaru Shida, Britt Baker, Nyla Rose and Toni Storm for #1 contenders for AEW Women’s title.

Hangman Adam Page took on Brian Cage in rubber match as his rivalry with Swerve Strickland started. Jon Moxley defended International Championship against Big Bill. We also heard from Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara. Don Callis revealed his next painting in honor of Konosuke Takeshita beating Kenny Omega.

LIVE UPDATES

Jon Moxley(c) vs Big Bill – AEW International Championship

Ricky Starks is in Bill’s corner. Moxley hits a calf kick to start before unloading on the up. Bill fires a big punch to knock him down. He hits a big blow to the back next. Overhead chops in the corner before Moxley hits some chops of his own. Bill catches his tackle and hits a fallaway slam. He hits a corner splash next before knocking him to the floor. Starks hits a kick at Moxley’s chest behind the referee’s back. Moxley whips Bill into the steel steps. Bill throws Moxley over the timekeeper’s table. We cut to a break.

Back from the break, Moxley rakes Bill’s back on the ropes. He hits a superplex next. Bill hits a Sidewalk Slam and lands a boot to the face. They trade forearm shots before Mox ducks a boot and drops Bill with a clothesline. Mox hits signature hammer and anvil elbows. Bill rolls to the floor. Moxley gets to the top rope but Ricky pushes him away with the referee distracted. Bill gets back in the ring to hit a big boot. Bryan Danielson comes out to counter Starks at ringside.

Moxley rolls up Bill for a two-count. Starks sends Danielson crashing into the ring steps. Bill hits a chokeslam on Mox in the ring but Moxley turns the pin attempt into an arm triangle. Bill gets up on his feet but has to tap out eventually. Danielson holds off Starks to not let her break the move.

Winner – Jon Moxley

After the match, Starks beats up Danielson on the floor and Bill beats up Mox in the ring. Starks gets into the ring and hits Mox with his shoe. Claudio Castagnoli runs out to help his teammates. Bill no-sells an uppercut but eventually leaves the ring.


Renee Paquette interviews Roderick Strong and The Kingdom backstage about Strong’s upcoming match with Samoa Joe. Adam Cole comes in and reminds Strong that Joe can make his neck injury a lot worse. Strong rants back at him before leaving with the Kingdom.

Callis’ Masterpiece

Don Callis is out to the ring with Konosuke Takeshita after being introduced by Tony Schiavone. Callis says in Japan, you are called the Ace when someone is the top star of the promotion. But Takeshita has beaten Omega twice, so, he will be called The Alpha. We get some confetti for Takeshita in celebration. Callis then says breaking Omega’s body is now enough, and they will break his mind also. Their next target is Kota Ibushi. Callis reveals his painting where Takeshita is about to put a sword through Ibushi. When they are going to burn down Ibushi, Omega will be at home and can’t do anything. Callis puts a screwdriver through Ibushi’s face in the painting. Takeshita shoves a bunch of red roses to Tony Schiavone.


Backstage, Bryan Danielson challenges Ricky Starks and Big Bill for a tag team match at Collision against him and Claudio Castagnoli. It is also revealed that Jon Moxley will defend AEW International title against Rey Fenix at Grand Slam Dynamite. Moxley calls it a day out with light workout and not a title defense. Rey Fenix comes out to have a trash talk with Moxley. Eddie Kingston comes to have a staredown with Claudio before laughing in his face that just 1 week is left before they fight.

Hikaru Shida, Britt Baker, Nyla Rose and Toni Storm – Fatal 4-way match for #1 Contender for AEW Women’s Championship

Toni leaves the ring as the match starts. Baker and Shida work together against Rose, but Rose drops them both with a double clothesline. Toni slides back in the ring and poses in front of Rose. Rose tries to attack Toni, but Shida and Baker send her out of the ring. Toni pushes Shida into Baker, and Baker lands on the outside. Shida sends Storm out of the ring and hits a crossbody on all the opponents to take us to a break.

Toni hits German suplex on Baker. Shida hits a brainbuster and hip attack on Toni. Baker and Shida face-off which allows Toni hits Shida with a chop block. Rose drops Baker with a chokeslam. Shida gets Rose in a sitout pin. Rose pulls her into a knee strike from Shida. Shida hits a knee strike and Katana kick on Rose. Baker hits a superkick on Shida, followed by a curbstomp. Storm rolls up Baker to get the pinfall.

Winner – Toni Storm

Renee Paquette interviews AEW Women’s Champion Saraya and Ruby Soho backstage. Saraya says Toni lost her spot, her title and her friends to her in one year time, and now lost her mind also. She claims that Toni will also lose her title shot.

Jericho & Sammy!

Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara make their entrance together. Jericho sends us to a video package featuring some of their best memories. Jericho says he saw Sammy on NWA 70th Anniversary show and called Tony Khan to sign Sammy. He has since tried to help Sammy as much as possible. Sammy says Jericho inspires him and he used to hit Codebreaker in his backyard. Sammy thanks Jericho for changing his life, and the life of many others like him as without him, there is no AEW. Sammy then says he did not come to this company just to be his sidekick, and wants to become AEW Champion which could not become a reality until he is under Jericho’s shadows.

Jericho tells him Sammy that he told him and Garcia to do things on their own two months ago. But, Jericho feels Sammy is not ready to beat him yet. Sammy gets mad at this and says Jericho always does this and claims that he will beat Jericho next week, earn his respect and then go on to win tag team titles. Sammy shakes Jericho’s hand before Jericho pulls him in his face and says he will give Sammy the match of his life, punching him harder than he ever has and does not expect Sammy to do anything else. Sammy says he will do the same.


Last week, MJF was checked by medical team and was told he could not travel this week for the show. MJF cuts a promo against Strong and Joe before showing off some Steiner Math to say he has 144% chance of retaining the title at Grand Slam.

Hangman Adam Page vs Brian Cage

Hangman fires punches. Cage tackles him to the corner to hit shoulder blocks and corner clotheslines. Hangman gets his boot up in the corner before Cage decks him with a forearm. Hangman hits a couple of big boots before hitting a clothesline to drop Hangman again. Hangman sends him to the apron with a low bridge. Hangman hits a springboard clothesline in the second attempt. Cage catches his crossbody and slams him into the ring post. Hangman counters a powerbomb with a hurricanrana. Hangman hits a crossbody to drop Cage.

Cage hits a clothesline as they return to the ring. Hangman ducks a clothesline and hits a hurricanrana to set up and hit 619. Hangman gets ready for Buckshot Lariat but Swerve Strickland’s music hits for his entrance. Hangman decks Cage from the apron but Cage pulls him up from the second rope to hit a German suplex. We cut to a break.

Hangman hits a knee strike as we return. Cage slams him to the mat to get a two-count. They trade forearm shots. Hangman hits a high boot. Cage hits a powerslam but Hangman avoids a moonsault from the second rope. Hangman hypes up as they trade punches. He unloads with quick punches before hittting a clothesline to take Cage to the floor. Cage returns to the ring and catches Hangman’s crossbody. Hangman counters a fallaway slam with a crucix bomb. Hangman hits a dropkick through the ropes after he rolls to the floor. Hangman hits an orihara moonsault on the floor and crossbody in the ring to get a two-count.

Cage hits a German suplex again. Cage goes for a suplex from the second rope but Hangman stops him with shots and sweeps his legs. Cage ducks the Buckshot Lariat but Hangman counters with Dead Eye to get the pinfall.

Hangman takes the mic and asks Swerve what passion oozes his body as he watches him from the ramp. He thought Swerve has some balls last week, but he does not think so anymore. Swerve says they will do this on his time. He announces their match at WrestleDream in his hometown. But before that, The Mogul Embassy will tune him up. Cage attacks Hangman from behind and drops him. Prince Nana starts dancing in the ring. The Young Bucks come in and nail Cage with a superkick. They dance behind Nana for a while before nailing him with a superkick. Hangman and The Young Bucks stand tall.

Darby Allin & Nick Wayne vs Angelo Parker & Matt Menard

Christian Cage comes out after the entrances of both teams. Parker takes control of the match early and brings in Menard for some double team. Wayne tries to fight back and jumps over Menard, but Menard pulls his leg to stop the tag. Jake Hager sweeps Darby on the apron to take us to the break.

Wayne hits uppercuts on both opponents before he leaps over them to tag in Darby. Darby sends both men to the corner to hit coffin splashes. He hits more quick shots before a dropkick. A Code Red on Menard gets him a nearfall. Parker goes for a suplex but Darby blocks it. Wayne gets a blind tag and hits Wayne’s World on Parker. Menard pulls Wayne out to break the pin. Darby hits Menard with a dive off the apron. Wayne hits a moonsault on Menard on the floor. Darby hits Coffin Drop on Parker to get the pinfall.

Winner – Darby Allin & Nick Wayne

Christian Cage takes the mic and is bothered that Nick Wayne’s does not post enough bikini pics. Moving on, he is upset that his loss at All In is still talked about. So, he wants his regular tag team partner Luchasaurus as he challenges Darby Allin and Sting for a tag team match on Grand Slam next week.

Roderick Strong vs Samoa Joe- Final of Grand Slam World Title Eliminator Tournament

The bell rings and they lock up before Strong rolls to the outside quickly. Joe chases him back in and Strong catches him with stomps and boots. Joe slams him to the mat and Strong moves out of the ring once again. He hits some shots as he comes back. Joe hits a running tackle to drop him. Joe unloads in the corner. He hits some chops before Strong also fires some chops to take us to a break.

Back from the break, Strong hits a boot to the face before a dropkick. Strong hits a stomp before some chops. Joe hits a Manhattan drop, a running boot and senton as we return. He hits a powerslam to get another two-count. Strong hits an enzuigiri and a knee strike to get a two-count. Strong keeps control for a while. Joe hits an Urinage from the corner. The Kingdom run a distraction which allows Strong to hit a running knee but Joe kicks out at two. Joe levels him to the mat and puts on a Coquina Clutch to get the submission.

Winner – Samoa Joe

After the match, Joe puts MJF on notice and says he is coming for him. He says he will beat him up and take everything he has.

Adam Cole comes out to check on Roderick Strong as he argues with The Kingdom. Strong suddenly falls over. Medical personnel run out and put Strong on a stretcher. They put another brace on Strong and take him out on a stretcher. Cole and The Kingdom continue to argue as Strong is taken to the back. The Kingdom stops Cole from going with him. Samoe Joe runs back and puts him in the Coquina Clutch. Joe says he plans on taking everything from MJF to close the show.
