Conor McGregor revealed on New Year’s Eve 2023 that he would return to action to face Michael Chandler on June 29, 2024, as part of International Fight Week PPV. In February 2024, UFC announced it’s International Fight Week 2024 to take place from June 24 to June 30, 2024, in Las Vegas, NV. The promotion also announced that UFC 303 PPV would also take place on June 29, 2024, as part of it.

At the post-show press conference for UFC 300, UFC President Dana White confirmed that a welterweight fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler would headline this event. McGregor and Chandler previously acted as coaches for The Ultimate Fighter Season 31 in 2023.

Gillian Robertson and Michelle Waterson-Gomez were booked for a flyweight bout at UFC 302. A few weeks later it was reported that the bout was postponed to this event.

Cody Durden and Carlos Hernandez were reportedly booked to clash in a flyweight bout at the event. However, Durden was later reported to have pulled out of the bout with unknown reasons. Debutant Rei Tsuruya was reported to face Hernandez as the replacement.
