A strawweight clash between Marina Rodriguez and Virna Jandiroba might be in work at UFC 288 PPV event.

The news comes from Twitter Handle MMA Melotto who reports UFC is planning #4 ranked strawweight Marina Rodriguez will take on #10 strawweight Virna Jandiroba at the PPV in May 2023.

Marina Rodriguez is coming off a loss in the main event bout on November 5, 2022 UFC Fight Night to Amanda Lemos. This was just her second loss in MMA career. Her first loss came at the hands of Carla Esparza in 2020. Between these two losses, Marina got 4 wins in a row over top ranked contenders in Amanda Ribas, Michelle Waterson, Mackenzie Dern and Yan Xiaonan.

Virna Jandiroba has traded wins and losses in her 5 bouts since 2020. She was last active in a win over Angela Hill in May 2022. Prior to that, Virna suffered losses to Amanda Ribas and Mackenzie Dern in between wins over Kanako Murata and Felice Herrig.

Former Invicta Strawweight Champion, Jandiroba suffered her only other loss in UFC to Carla Esparza in her UFC debut. Her overall record in UFC stands at 4-3, while overall MMA record stands at 18-3.

UFC 288 PPV is currently expected to take place on May 6, 2023, but there is no location announced. The event also does not have a confirmed main event but it is reported that a bantamweight title bout between Henry Cejudo and Aljamain Sterling is likely to be the headliner. Charles Oliveira vs Beniel Dariush lightweight bout is expected to be the co-main event.
