Leon Edwards Expects to Fight Colby Covington at UFC 295

Leon Edwards has said that his upcoming welterweight title match against Colby Covington is expected to be held at UFC 295 event.

During an interview at UFC London Fight Day Focus, Leon Edwards revealed that his fight against Covington in October or November this year. However, since UFC 294 will feature Islam Makhachev vs Charles Oliveira as the main event, his fight is more likely for UFC 295 now.

He also added that it would be the co-main event since if it gets finalized for UFC 295, as Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic is already announced as the main event for the heavyweight title. UFC 295 event is scheduled for November 11, 2023, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Edwards also mentioned that he wants to fight Covington at the UFC 294 event in October because Abu Dhabi is closer to his home, but if the UFC 294 plan is dropped, the match is highly expected to be held at the UFC 295 event.

Edwards is coming off back-to-back wins over Kamaru Usman. He won the welterweight title from Usman at UFC 278 in August last year via late knockout. He followed up with a more impressive display in their rematch at UFC 286 in London.

Colby Covington has won three fights and lost two in his recent five bouts. Covington’s recent bout was against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 event where he won by unanimous decision. Covington’s UFC record stands for 12-3-0
