EVENT NOTES
UFC holds a PPV event at Madison Square Garden in New York early in November every year since 2016(barring 2020 due to COVID-19). UFC President Dana White took to social media to announce the 2023 PPV at MSG would take place on November 11, 2023. This will be the 7th UFC PPV event to take place at MSG.
Along with the event announcement, Dana White also confirmed that Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic bout for UFC Heavyweight Championship would headline the event.
Prochazka had to relinquish UFC Light Heavyweight Championship before UFC 282 in December 2022 due to a shoulder injury. Jamahal Hill also had to relinquish the title in August 2023 due to torn ACL. UFC President Dana White said on August 29, 2023, in a press conference that they Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira might possibly fight in December at UFC 296 for the title. However, on September 20, 2023, Dana White announced via a video on social media that Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira will fight for the vacant Light Heavyweight title in the co-main event.
Joshua Van and Kevin Borjas were scheduled to clash in Dana White Contender Series 2023 season. Later, Van was pulled out of the fight to be booked against Zhalgas Zhumagulov at UFC Jacksonville. Fight Night. The bout was later rebooked to this event.
