STORYLINES

World Heavyweight Championship: Gunther defeated Jey Uso at Saturday Night’s Main Event 38 event on January 25, 2025. Jey also lost Intercontinental Championship match to Gunther in 2023. At Royal Rumble 2025, Jey Uso won the men’s Royal Rumble match and had the option to choose either of World Heavyweight Champion Gunther or Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes to challenge at WrestleMania 41. On RAW February 3 episode, Gunther advised him not to choose him as he would make his life miserable and beat him once again. Gunther then attacked Jey next week on RAW when he was completing his entrance. After this, Jey said he had chosen to challenge Gunther. Jey’s brother, Jimmy Uso came to partner him in a tag team match on RAW March 24 episode against A-Town Down Under. Gunther attacked both brothers from behind. He then handcuffed Jey to the ropes before beating up Jimmy in front of him. Gunther also defeated Jimmy in a singles match the following week.

Undisputed WWE Championship: Men’s Elimination Chamber match was announced for Elimination Chamber 2025 to determine #1 contender for Undisputed WWE Championship. After getting eliminated last in the men’s Royal Rumble match, John Cena asked to be put in Elimination Chamber match directly, claiming that it was what best for business. The request was accepted by WWE without much drama. CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Damian Priest, Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul qualified for the match. Meanwhile, The Rock appeared on SmackDown February 21 episode and offered Cody to become his champion if Cody surrendered his soul to him, for which Rock could give him better opportunities. Rock told Cody to make his decision by Elimination Chamber event. John Cena won the #1 contender Chamber match to fix his showdown against Cody. After Cena’s win, Cody came out for a face-off with Cena. The Rock and Travis Scott also came out. When The Rock asked Cody for his decision, Cody refused by saying that he had already gave his soul to the fans. Cena cheered Cody’s decision and went to hug him. However, The Rock then signaled Cena to finish Cody which gave way for Cena turning heel for the first time in 20 years.

WWE Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair won the 2025 women’s Royal Rumble match. Flair had the option to choose between Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley and WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton to challenge at WrestleMania 41. She ended up choosing to face Stratton. The following weeks went into several promos and occasional brawls.

Women’s World Championship: Women’s Elimination Chamber was announced for the #1 contender match for one of Women’s World titles. After Flair made her choice for WrestleMania, the match was confirmed to be the #1 contender for Women’s World Championship against Rhea Ripley. Bianca Belair won the Chamber match to earn her title shot. Rhea Ripley, the reigning champion, face Iyo Sky on RAW March 3 episode during which Bianca was sitting at the ringside. Rhea got miffed with Bianca when she cheered for Iyo during the match, leading to ringside altercation. This led to Iyo countering Rhea’s finisher and winning the match to win the title. The following week, Iyo’s promo was taken over by another altercation between Bianca and Rhea. Iyo slapped them both, saying that she would let them disrespect her and the title. On RAW March 17 episode, Iyo and Bianca signed a contract for their match at WrestleMania. Rhea then attacked them and put them through the table before also signing the contract for the match. RAW General Manager Adam Pearce gave Rhea a rematch against Iyo on RAW March 31 episode with Bianca as the special referee. The match ended in a double disqualification. The following week, Pearce announced that Rhea would be added to the title match at WrestleMania 41.

Reigns vs Rollins vs Punk: Seth Rollins and CM Punk were involved in a rivalry which saw Punk beating Rollins at RAW on Netflix debut episode on January 6, 2025. However, the tension between them continued further. During the men’s Royal Rumble match, Rollins and Roman Reigns were tussling at the ropes when Punk eliminated both of them. Punk was also eliminated immediately after this by Logan Paul. An enraged Rollins then hit Reigns with the stomps on the steel steps. Punk and Rollins also brawled for a while before the security separated them. Rollins and Punk clashed in a steel cage match on RAW March 3 episode. Rollins was about to hit Punk with a super stomp when Reigns pulled him out of the cage and hit him with a spear and more. Reigns also beat up Punk in the ring when he saw Paul Heyman helping him up. On SmackDown March 21 episode, Reigns took shots at Rollins and Punk before they both came out, leading to a three-way brawl and all three men pointing towards the WrestleMania sign. WWE later announced a triple threat match between them.

World Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day(Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) had turned heel in December 2024 and were targeting the World Tag Team Championships since then. They got a title shot against The War Raiders(Erik & Ivar) on April 7, 2025 RAW episode which ended in a disqualification when the referee saw Erik hitting Woods with a chair inadvertently. The New Day were enraged that they did not win the titles as the titles do not change in case of disqualification or count out. In anger, they attacked The War Raiders after the match. After the officials stopped the New Day, Adam Pearce announced a rematch between the teams at WrestleMania 41.

Rey Mysterio vs El Grande Americano: When Chad Gable was on a losing streak against luchadors, he expressed that he would go on a journey to solve his lucha libre problems. On March 10 RAW episode, an unidentified luchador with a mask featuring American flag cost Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee a tag team match against the New Day. The masked wrestler, named El Grande Americano, made his debut on March 24 RAW episode to beat Lee. Two weeks later, Americano and The Creed Brothers(Brutus Creed and Julius Creed) defeated the LWO (Lee, Joaquin Wilde, and Cruz Del Toro) in a six-man tag team match after Ivy Nile put a piece of metal in Americano’s mask to use against Lee. Later that night, Mysterio requested RAW General Manager Adam Pearce a match against Americano, saying that Americano made a mockery of the art and tradition of lucha libre.

McIntyre vs Priest: Damian Priest cashed in Money in the Bank briefcase against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania XL minutes after CM Punk attacked him with his arm brace. Punk also cost McIntyre the title match against Priest two more times at Clash at the Castle Scotland and Money in the Bank. The feud between Priest and McIntyre was reignited when Priest eliminated McIntyre from the men’s Royal Rumble 2025 match. Priest also eliminated McIntyre from the men’s Elimination Chamber match. McIntyre attacked Priest the following week which started a series of brawls between them. Then on April 10, a match between them was officially announced for WrestleMania 41. On SmackDown April 11 episode, the match was announced to be a Sin City Street Fight.

Styles vs Paul: At the Royal Rumble, AJ Styles was eliminated by Logan Paul. Styles was transfered to RAW roster as part of WWE’s transfer window. Styles. Paul and Styles were involved in several confrontations before Styles finally challenged Paul to a match on RAW March 31 episode. But, Paul declined the challenge saying that he did not “fight for free” and pointed to the WrestleMania sign. Styles attacked to start a brawl between them before Adam Pearce scheduled a match between them at WrestleMania 41.

WWE United States Championship Match: Jacob Fatu and Braun Strowman were in a feud when they clashed in a singles match on SmackDown March 21 episode in a #1 contender’s match for the United States title. The match ended in a disqualification win for Strowman when The Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga attacked him. LA Knight defended the United States title against Braun Strowman on SmackDown March 28 episode when Fatu attacked both competitors to cause a double disqualification. On the April 4 episode, Fatu defeated Strowman in a Last Man Standing match which earned him a match for United States Championship at WrestleMania 41.

Cargill vs Naomi: A mystery attacker put Jade Cargill through a car windshield in November 2024. Cargill was out of action for three months. The attacker was not revealed until Cargill returned during the women’s Elimination Chamber match on March 1, 2025, to attack Naomi. Naomi then agreed that she was the one to attack Cargill. This led to Cargill attacking Naomi several times before their match at WrestleMania was announced.

Canceled Match Orton vs Owens: After Bad Blood 2024 event, Kevin Owens turned heel by attacking Cody Rhodes due to him choosing to tag with Roman Reigns at the event. Randy Orton took offense to Owens attacking Cody which led to a match between them at Crown Jewel. However, that match could not officially as they started brawling during their entrance. On the following SmackDown episode, Owens hit Orton with a package piledriver which sidelined Orton for 4 months. Orton returned at Elimination Chamber 2025 event when Owens was trying to hurt Sami Zayn after beating him in a match. Orton hit Owens with an RKO before Owens slipped out of the ring to avoid the Punt kick. Owens also saved Carmelo Hayes from a Punt kick from Orton on the following SmackDown. Owens then interrupted Orton’s promo on SmackDown March 21 episode and apologized to him for attacking him previously. Owens also offered to tag with Orton to target the tag titles. However, Orton called bullshit on his apology and announced that they would clash at WrestleMania. On April 4, 2025 SmackDown episode, Owens announced that he had been working with a neck injury for the last four months. However, he had to undergo surgery on his neck now and the match was canceled.
