WWE WrestleMania 40: Bayley to Challenge Iyo Sky for Women’s Title
Bayley has chosen to challenge her stablemate and WWE Women’s Champion Iyo Sky at WWE WrestleMania 40.
Bayley won the women’s Royal Rumble match 2024 which earned her the right to challenge either Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley or WWE Women’s Champion Iyo Sky at WrestleMania. She had maintained for the last one month that she would challenge Rhea Ripley and bring her title to Damage CTRL.
However, things took a turn this week on SmackDown when Bayley heard Iyo Sky, Asuka and Kairi Sane making fun of her backstage with Iyo even saying that Bayley would be done tonight. Bayley was supposed to make an announcement for her opponent at WrestleMania, but she went on to confront Iyo in the ring.
Bayley asked Iyo what had changed since Asuka and Kairi Sane joined Damage CTRL. This ultimately led to Asuka and Sane attacking Bayley. Bayley fought back with a metal pipe she had placed near the ring post. Iyo and Bayley also came to blows but Iyo slipped to the floor to stand with Asuka & Sane.
After this, Bayley said that she would challenge Iyo Sky for Women’s title at WrestleMania 40. The show is set to take place on April 6 and April 7, 2024, at Lincoln Field in Philadelphia, PA. This is the first match to be made official for the show.
The seeds of Damage CTRL’s split were sown over the last few months. The rest of the group were seen apart from Bayley at crucial moments since the group lost the women’s War Games match at Survivor Series 2023 event.
Bayley formed the group with Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai at SummerSlam 2022. Sane joined them when she returned to promotion at Crown Jewel 2023. Asuka also joined the group a week later on SmackDown.
