WWE Raw episode of April 18, 2022, will continue to build-up towards WrestleMania Backlash 2022. The show will air live from KeyBank Center, Buffalo NY, and will feature the United States championship match and the women’s tag-team championship match. 

WWE United States Champion Finn Balor will defend his title against Theory in a singles match. Meanwhile, Sasha Banks & Naomi will defend their women’s tag titles against the team of Liv Morgan & Rhea Ripley. R-Truth will oversee two weddings while Kevin Owens will put Ezekiel under Lie Detector test. We can expect the storyline between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins to progress further.

Rollins Wants To Even Up!

Seth Rollins is out in the ring. Without going into much fillers, he invites calls out Cody Rhodes to come out. Cody makes his entrance and gets a huge ovation like he is getting since his return. Cody takes the mic and brings up that how they were across the ring here in Buffalo, and how this town is Rhodes Country.
Rollins starts to speak but he gets cut off by Cody hyping up the crowd again for more cheers. Rollins gets irritated by this. Rollins now says he respected him, his brother and father and his journey.

Rollins then says all of that does not matter as Seth made him a star in one night at Wrestlemania. Rollins adds that he lost at WrestleMania because Cody was a surprise opponent. Seth says he is better than Cody in every metric, talking the talking and walking the walk. Cody says why not they let the crowd decide. He asks the crowd if he is better than Rollins. The crowd starts chanting yes.

Rollins says crowd can’t decide in one minute that who is better. He proposes a match for Cody against a surprise opponent of his choosing later tonight in the main event. Cody accepts the challenge.

Boss N’ Glow(Sasha Banks & Naomi) vs Liv Morgan & Rhea Ripley – WWE Women’s Championship Match

Rhea drops Sasha to start. Quick attack from Rhea before bringing in Liv. Sasha hits a jawbreaker. A kick to the face rocks Liv. Naomi tags in for double team shoulder breaker and roundhouse kicks. Naomi knocks off Rhea off the apron. On the floor now, they slam Liv’s face into the ringpost. Sasha goes for crossbody on Rhea but Rhea catches her and swings her into Naomi. Liv catapults Naomi into the ringpost. Rhea hits Sasha with a Riptide on the barricade. We cut to a break.

Rhea is in control against Naomi. Liv tags in and slams Naomi with a double team bulldog. Lov avoids a pin attempt by Naomi. Liv rocks hers with a knee and an enziguiri. Rhea gets a blind tag. Liv counters Naomi and hits a powerbomb. Rhea comes in and hits Riptide. Sasha comes in, battles Liv out and breaks the pin.

Liv is knocked off to the floor. Naomi holds Rhea as Sasha hits her with a backstabber. Naomi hits Rear View on Rhea and Sasha covers with a lateral press to get the pin and the win.

Winner – Sasha Banks & Naomi

After the match, Sasha and Naomi exit after celebrating for a while. Liv gets back into the ring as Reha recovers. Rhea gets mad at Liv and says she failed this tag team by not saving her. Liv protests and Rhea drops her from behind. Rhea unloads on the mat for a while before hitting Riptide. Rhea exits.

Sonya Tells Her Piece!

Sonya says she has been hearing chatters that she is misusing her officials’ position by getting a title match against Bianca Beliar. She says she is a competitor first and was forced into the management position. She is not someone who is having a quarter-life crisis and wants to make themselves feel better. Bianca is not just EST but BEST. So, she wants to win the title from the best. We can says anything but the bottom line is that she is here and will get a title shot.

Bianca comes out to interrupt her. Sonya warns her that she is a WWE official right now and not a competitor. Bianca was getting ready to attack her but instead challenges Sonya for a match right away. Sonya proposes a match next week so that Bianca’s family will be there to console her. Bianca gets irritated and picks up Sonya for KOD. Sonya has mic in her hand and warns that Bianca could be fined, fired and even have the title taken away. Bianca throws her down and leaves. Sonya is rattled as Bianca leaves.

Veer Mahan vs Jeff Brooks

Veer hits a spinebuster to start. He continues to beat him up into corner. Brooks tries to back. Veer pushes him away midair. He hits a Samoan drop and then hits the million dollar Lariat. Veer puts on the cervical clutch to get the submission win.

Winner – Veer Mahan

After the match, Veer puts him in a cervical clutch once again. WWE officials run out but they are having tough time separating them.

Sonya Deville gets to WWE Official Adam Pearce and says what kind of reppurcussions will Bianca face. Pearce tells her that it is taken care of, but also adds that she is also being investigated for misconduct. Sonya gets irritated upon hearing this. Bianca comes in and pays her fine- a whole one dollar. Sonya gets more furstrated as Bianca leaves.

Lie Detector Test on Kevin Owens Show

Kevin Owens is in the ring for Kevin Owens show. Chad Gable is in the ring with the lie detector setup. He explains how he thinks Ezekiel is Elias and wants to prove it. He wants to make it clear that this test is not rigged, he has brought in the smartest man in WWE, the 4.0 GPA holder Chad Gable. Gable says thankk eewww for all the praise. Gable says he will get the truth out, and if he lies, he will beat the truth out of him in a match right away.

Ezekiel makes his way out and once again says he is not Elias. Kevin cuts off and says they do not want to hear about him being the brother thing. Gable puts on strap on Ezekiel’s arm for the test. He asks some baseline question before getting sidetracked over his loss at WrestleMania. Kevin gets him back on track. Gable asks him if his real name is Ezekiel. Ezekiel replies “yes” and the machine shows he is telling the truth.

Gable asks him whether Elias is his older brother. He says “yes”, and the machine once again says it is true. Owens is frustrated now and says the machine is broken. He rants and asks Ezekiel is he is Elias. Ezekiel replies “no” and the machine says it is true. Ezekiel says he has had enough disrespect from Owens. He now wants to move on to his first match in WWE. Kevin Owens asks him to tell truth or… Ezekiel asks him “or what?” Owens exits the ring. Gable drops Ezekiel from behind and beats him up for a while.

Ezekiel vs Chad Gable

Ezekiel jumps on Gable and unloads. He throws Gable across the ring. Gable goes to the floor. Ezekiel hits chops and drops Gable on the steel steps. Ezekiel hits chops in the ring now. Gable hits him with dragon screw leg in the corner. Gable continues to work on the leg. He puts on the knee bar. Ezekile kicks him away. He hits a clothesline.

Ezekiel throws Gable again. Gable comes back with a Northern Light suplex. Ezekiel gets hits boot up on a moonsault. He hits a spinebuster before putting Gable in the half Boston Crab. Gable is in trouble and Otis attacks Ezekiel to cause a DQ.

Winner – Ezekiel(by DQ)

RK-Bro vs The Street Profits

Orton starts against Dawkins and puts on a side headlock. A shoulder tackle follows. Riddle comes in and they both stomp on Dawkins’ arms. Riddle hits an assisted moonsault. Ford gets a blind tag and htis a dropkick on Riddle. Ford hits a side suplex and goes to the top. Riddle joins him and hits a exploder suplex from the top to take us to the break.

Back from the break, Ford and Riddle are trading shots and kicks in the ring. Dawkins comes in. Riddle kicks him away and tags out. Orton to come in hyped up and hits his signature powerslams. He hits draping DDTs on both opponents. Riddle tags back again and goes to the top. The Usos music plays but they do not come out. Riddle is distracted and Street Profits take advantage. They hit blockbuster Doomsday Device on Riddle to get the pin.

Winner – Street Profits

Profits warn them that the Usos are not the only team they have to worry about.

Edge & Priest Explain

Edge and Damian Priest cut a promo backstage. Damian Priest says we are probably wondering why they are going after AJ Styles so hard. Edge says mindgames have always been part of him, planted twenty years ago with the Brood. But, they haven’t lived up to their true capabilities. Edge brings up Priest taking backseat to Bad Bunny last year at WrestleMania and not even having a match this year.

Edge says he fought, scratched, clawed and bit to come back. In two years, people have started to complain about him being back. So, he has finally decided to not care what fans think. They will take back what he never lost, and they will pass judgment on anyone standing in their way. Right now that person is AJ Styles, and he is officially challenging him to a rematch at WrestleMania Backlash. And it will be AJ’s judgment day.

Back from commercial, AJ Styles is interviewed backstage. He says if Edge is the judge then Damian is his big fat bailiff. He accepts the challenge but Edge can save his judgment. The lights start flickering, turning blue. Edge and Priest attack Styles and stomp on him.

Finn Balor(c) vs Theory – WWE United States Championship Match

Balor wrenches the arm to start. Theory hits a tackle. Balor rocks Theory and hits chops and punches in the corner. A side slam from Theory to counter. Theory puts on a chinlock. He slams Balor’s face to the mat for a two-count. Another chinlock from Theory. He slams Balor to the mat. Theory slams Balor on the floor to get to a break.

Theory hits a dropkick as we return. Theory hits him with knees and a double stomp. Balor makes a comeback with a flying forearm. Theory hits a spinning side slam for a two-count. Balor counters with a DDT. Theory hits a sitout powerbomb. Balor hits slingblade and shotgun dropkick. He goes to the top and but Theory gets up and htis a Spanish Fly for a near fall.

Balot hits a clothesline to send Austin to the floor. Balor hits tope con giro. Back to the ring, Theory counters and hits ATL to get the pin and the win.

Winner – Theory(new US Champion)

After the match, Theory celebrates with the title. The heels from locker room comes out to celebrate with him. Vincent McMahon also comes out to the stage to join him in celebrations. Austin walks to the stage and takes a selfie with him before having his hand raised.

Seth Rollins is interviewed backstage and asked about Cody’s opponent later tonight. Rollins says he will not reveal the identity of Cody’s opponent until Cody gets into the ring, just like he got to know about Cody at WrestleMania.

Double Wedding

Wedding Party is set in the ring. Both grooms- Reggie and Akira Tozawa are with them. R-Truth does some comedy asking Reggie to zip up his fly. R-Truth also says that the 24/7 Championship rules are suspended during the wedding ceremony. Truth introduces our brides- Dana Brooke and Tamina – their make their entrances. R-Truth begins the ceremony. Dana Brooke does his vows first and talks of Reggies’ willingness to sacrifice himself for her. Reggie goes next with vows before Tamina and Tozawa do theirs.

Truth asks if anyone has any objection. Tamina objects and swap grooms. Truth asks for objections again and Tamina pulls Tozawa and moves to marry Dana Brooke. Third objection from Tamina returns everyone to their original position. R-Truth calls for the rings and announces the wedding after it and they can kiss. Reggie turns his kiss into a pin and wins 24/7 championship.

This starts a chain. Tamina overwhelms Reggie and pins him. Tozawa gets under her skirt and pins her to win the title. Dana Brooke jumps on Tozawa and wins the title back.


Bobby Lashley is backstage for an interview. Before he can say anything, MVP interrupts with a promo threatening, saying he is teaching Omos all of his tricks. Omos wants to challenge Lashley for an arm wrestling match. Lashley says he is going to go through Omos to get to MVP. Omos is big and strong, but so is he. They will find out who is stronger in their arm wrestling match next week, and he will show them why he is called the All Mighty.

Cody makes his entrance before the break. Seth Rollins comes out after the break. He says Cody is not as good as he thinks he is and his opponent tonight will show this. The opponent is Cody Rhodes.

Cody Rhodes vs Kevin Owens

They lock up and Owens puts on a chinlock, followed by a waist lock. Cody fights him off but Owens snaps his arm to the mat. Owens hits some punches before Cody sends Owens to the floor. Cody goes for a dive but Owens catches him and hits an overhead throw into the barricade. We cut to a break.

Owens sends Cody to the apron. Cody comes back with a forearm and hits a couple of dropkicks. Owens hits a senton on his back for a two-count. Owens with more kicks and blows to the back as he slows down things. He hits a backbreaker next. Owens stretches Cody’s back on his knees for a while. Owens hits more knees to the back.

Cody hits back with punches before Owens hits a suplex for a two-count. Cody counters the second suplex and drops Owens face first. Owens counters crossrhodes into a DDT for another two-count. Owens goes to the top now and but Cody gets his knees up on the senton. Cody charges at him on the announce table to take both of them over it. Seth Rollins comes out to the stage as we cut to a break.

Both men are on the top now. Cody hits some punches before Owens drops him to the mat with a big blow. Owens hits a splash and then hits a Swanton bomb for a near fall. Cody counters with a cradle for a two-count. He counters a op-up powerbomb into a hurricanrana. They trade superkicks before Cody turns Owens inside out with a clothesline. Owens hits a pop-up powerbomb for another close two-count.

Owens goes to the top again as Rollins motivates him. Cody hits some shots from the second rope. Owens hits an elbow to back him down. He hits a fisherman superplex and Cody gets his leg on the bottom rope to break the pin. Owens looks for a powerbomb on the apron but Cody counters with a back body drop. Owens drops on the floor. The referee starts to count him out. Rollins tries to motivate him and frustrates him into leaving. Cody gets the count-out win.

Winner – Cody Rhodes(via count-out)

Rollins follows Owens to the back, protesting and arguing a bit. Cody is not happy by winning this way but celebrates it after a slight hesitation. The show goes off the air.


Preview


Finn Balor vs Theory: Theory once again manages to convince the WWE Chairman & his mentor, Vince McMahon, for another title opportunity. As a result, he will challenge Finn Balor for his United States title next week. Will Theory finally be able to make Mr. McMahon proud? 

Sasha Banks & Naomi vs Liv Morgan & Rhea Ripley: The current women tag-team champions, Sasha Banks & Naomi, will defend their championships against Liv Morgan & Rhea Ripley for the second time next week on Raw.

Lie Detector Test: Kevin Owens is convinced that Ezekiel is in fact Elias only. And to prove it, he will put Ezekiel under a lie detector test. Will the Truth come out of it?

Double Wedding: R-Truth will ordain not only one but two weddings this week on RAW. Reggie weds Dana Brooke while Akita Tozawa weds Tamina. Will we see R-Truth winning 24/7 Championship after a wild wedding?

What’s Next for Cody?: Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins are set to face-off in a rematch at Backlash. Until now, the rivalry has been respectful. Will that change this week?
