WWE Backlash 2020 Matches, Card, Storyline, Start Time, Date, Location
The 15th WWE Backlash PPV is returning after two years in 2020. Backlash has been a yearly event from 1999 to 2009 and then from 2016 to 2018. However, WWE replaced the PPV with Stomping Grounds, a name that did not land well among fans. WWE has not announced any location for the PPV but it is expected to air from WWE Performance Center itself.

Like any other WWE PPV, Backlash 2020 will also stream live at WWE Network worldwide. The event will also be available on traditional PPV in other countries (check local listing).
The event will air on Sony Ten 1(English) and Sony Ten 3(Hindi) in India.

- Asuka(c) defeated Nia Jax to retain WWE RAW Women’s Championship
- Braun Strowman(c) defeated The Miz & John Morrison in a 2-on-1 handicapped match to retain WWE Universal Championship

- Randy Orton defeated Edge in the Greatest Wrestling Match
WWE Backlash 2020 Matches & Storyline
Edge vs Randy Orton
The storyline started at WWE Royal Rumble 2020 when Edge made his WWE in-ring return after almost 9 years. On the next day at RAW, Randy Orton turned on him after teasing the Rated RKO reunion. This led to the Last Standing match between them at WrestleMania, where Edge defeated Orton.
Edge and Orton then went on a hiatus after WrestleMania and returned on 11 May episode of RAW. Edge cut a promo and said that he has had his piece of flash out of Orton and want to move ahead. Orton came out to confront him and pointed out how Edge choose the convenience of heard of wrestlers in Royal Rumble match to make his return and then he chose the Last Man Standing match stipulation at WrestleMania where he just had to incapacitate Orton to win. After this, Orton challenged Edge for a straight-up wrestling match at Backlash for Edge to prove that he is better than him.
Drew McIntyre vs Bobby Lashley – WWE Championship
Bobby Lashley has a newfound interest in the WWE Championship after MVP became his manager. After MVP questioned him for being stuck in the mid-card for too long and not having a WWE Championship opportunity since 2007. After this, Lashley challenged Drew McIntyre during his match against Baron Corbin. Since then, they have been involved in multiple brawls.
Braun Strowman(c) vs The Miz & John Morrison – WWE Universal Championship
Braun Strowman took on Otis’ invitation for bring his tag team match against The Miz and John Morrison. Strowman pinned Miz to get the win in the match. Next week, Miz and Morrison took shots at Strowman for hanging around Otis even when he has the Money in the Bank briefcase. Strowman came out and the argument led to a singles match between Strowman and Miz. Strowman won the match and afterward, Morrison challenged him for a handicapped match for the title at Backlash 2020.
Asuka(c) vs Nia Jax – Raw Women’s Championship
The feud between Asuka and Nia Jax started after Jax defeated Asuka’s tag team partner, Kairi Sane, in matches on back to back weeks. Their rivalry continued during the build-up to Money in the Bank Ladder match. Asuka won the MITB briefcase and then handed RAW Women’s Championship when Becky Lynch left the title.
Nia Jax continued the feud when she interrupted Asuka’s Championship celebration. She then went on drop Sane backstage after an altercation between them. Then, Nia Jax won the #1 contenders match to get the title shot against Asuka at Backlash 2020 PPV.
