WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg returned to WWE to set up the Universal Championship match against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022 event.
Roman Reigns retained the title against Seth Rollins despite a loss via disqualification. Later, he interfered in Brock Lesnar’s WWE title match to cost him the title. Lesnar later won the Royal Rumble match and has chosen to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 38.
Roman opened SmackDown this week with Paul Heyman and The Usos. Heyman narrated how he realized that the Head of the Table did not need any protection from Lesnar, but it is the other way around. Heyman acknowledged Roman as his Tribal Chief and asked the crowd to do the same thing.
At this point, Goldberg came out and told Roman that he acknowledges him as his next opponent at Elimination Chamber for the Universal Championship. Roman did not reply to Goldberg as the segment ended.
Later, WWE made it official that Goldberg and Roman Reigns will face off in the Universal Championship match at the Elimination Chamber event. The pair was earlier supposed to face off at WrestleMania 36 before Roman pulled out of the bout due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the fourth match to be confirmed for the show which takes place on February 19 from Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia.
