Rey Mysterio Agrees to Face Dominik at WWE WrestleMania 39
A Father vs Son showdown is set for WrestleMania 39 as Rey Mysterio has finally agreed to fight Dominik Mysterio.
Rey Mysterio faced LA Knight in a singles match this week on SmackDown with his wife Angie and daughter Alayah in the front row. Dominik came out to the ringside during the match and interfered by picking Rey’s leg as he went for 619. LA Knight took advantage and rolled up Rey to get the pinfall.
After the match, Dominik once again got into Rey’s face as he had been doing for the past month or so and dared to hit him. As Rey left the ring without laying his hands on Dominik, his son kept calling him out for a match at WrestleMania 39 while also calling him a deadbeat dad, coward, and loser.
Dominik then went to his mother and sister and started insulting them. When Dominik called her a deadbeat mom, Rey could not hold himself back and ended up dropping Dominik with a big punch. Rey told Dominik that he had crossed the line by insulting his own mother and Rey’s wife. Rey then agreed that he would face Dominik at WrestleMania 39.
The storyline between Rey and Dominik started at Clash at the Castle when Dominik hit Edge with a spear after Edge and Rey defeated Judgment Day in a tag team match. Dominik then joined Judgment Day and kept harassing his dad every week. Fed up of this, Rey contemplated retiring from WWE, only to be called to SmackDown by Triple H.
Rey and Dominik had run-ins during the holidays with Rhea Ripley and the Mysterio family also getting involved. While Rey’s time at SmackDown was carrying on peacefully, Dominik started appearing on the Blue Brand with Rhea Ripley as she started her feud with SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. Week after week, Dominik found new ways to insult Rey and dared him to face him at WrestleMania.
Rey finally gave into his demands this week finally when Dominik insulted Angie and Alayah. WrestleMania 39 is set to take place over two nights on April 1 & April 2. It is not announced on which night this father vs son showdown will take place. Rey Mysterio is also set to be inducted into WWE Hall of Fame 2023 on March 31.
