Owens & Sami vs Balor & Priest WWE Payback 2023 Live Blog
The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and Damian Priest defeated Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens in a steel city street fight at WWE Payback 2023 to become the new WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions. Check the live updates from the match below.
Storyline
Dominik defended NXT North American Title against Sami Zayn on RAW July 24 episode, but the latter lost after Damian Priest & Rhea Ripley attacked Kevin Owens. After this beatdown, Owens was sidelined for a few weeks, but Sami continued this rivalry.
Kevin Owens made his return on the August 21 episode of RAW, where he along with Sami & Cody defeated the Judgment Day in a six-man tag team match. The following week, Sami & Owens faced Damian & Finn in a tag team match, but Owens used the MITB briefcase to hit Balor which caused the DQ. As a result, Damian & Finn earned a title shot against the champions. The duo of Sami & Kevin then revealed that the match at Payback would be a Steel City Street Fight.
Live Updates
The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn are the first ones to walk out. They are followed by Finn Balor and Damian Priest of the Judgment Day.
Both teams start trading strikes and get the match out of the ring as soon as the match starts. Owens & Priest fight on the ramp whereas Sami fights Balor at the ringside. The champs have the upper hand as Sami takes chairs inside the ring.
Finn Balor hits Sami with the kendo stick before mocking the flag of Pittsburg. KO comes running and takes out Balor. Priest comes to Balor’s aid before Sami comes flying and takes out everyone.
KO & Sami take out the trash can and they hit Balor & Priest with it. KO rips off his t-shirt and he is wearing a Terry Funk t-shirt inside. The duo puts the trash can on Finn’s head and they hit him with the kendo sticks.
KO & Sami set up a table outside. They go to Damian, but the latter changes things around for the Judgment Day. He even hits Sami with the trash can. Now the Judgment Day begins their offense as they hit Sami & KO with the chairs. Priest holds KO as Finn hits him with the trash can.
Damian Priest throws multiple chairs inside the ring as Finn fights Sami beside the announce table. KO fights back against Damian and continues to stomp him. Finn stops him with a steel chair shot. Sami comes to the ring and hits Finn with a chair of his own.
Both the teams fight among the crowd when Dominik Mysterio comes to help the Judgment Day. Sami & KO appear to be dressed up in Pittsburgh Steeler jerseys with hockey sticks in their hands. The duo takes out the entire Judgment Day.
They take the fight back inside the ring. KO sends Damian into the steel steps. Meanwhile, Sami delivers the blue thunder powerbomb to Finn on the pile of steel chairs for a near fall.
Damian Priest uses the hockey stick and attacks Sami & KO. Damian hits Sami with a suplex on the steel chairs and covers, but KO throws a chair and breaks the count. KO tries to fight back, but the Judgment Day stops him.
They take the fight among the crowd again as KO fights back and Sami joins him. Sami face-first Finn’s face on the desk before climbing on it. He delivers the Sommersault Senton to Finn & Damian.
Dominik returns and attacks Sami, but KO takes out Dominik and sets him up on the table. KO climbs up high on the staircase and hits Dom with the Senton through the table as the crowd chants “holy sh*t.”
Sami hits an exploder suplex on Balor back in the ring. Priest throws a trash can in Sami’s face to block Helluva kick. Sami slips out of the Rack bomb and trips Balor off the top turnbuckle. Sami pushes Balor off the apron at ringside to put him through the table.
Samis tries to hit the Helluva kick but Damian stops hit. KO hits Damian with the stunner that allows Sami to hit the Helluva kick. Sami covers, but JD McDonagh breaks the pinfall. KO attacks JD at the ringside and takes him out.
Rhea Ripley comes running down and takes out KO with a spear into the barricade. Meanwhile, Finn hits Sami with a sling blade inside the ring. He goes for the Coup-de-Grace but Sami moves out of the ring and hits the exploder.
Sami Zayn connects the Helluva kick and covers but Dominik breaks the pin by hitting Sami with the MITB briefcase. Finn covers Sami and gets the pinfall as they become the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.
