Lucha Libre AAA has confirmed that Kenny Omega will defend the AAA Mega Championship against Andrade at AAA TripleMania 29.
TripleMania is AAA’s biggest event of the year and the 2021 edition will take place on 14 August. The show will take place in front of a limited capacity of fans in Mexico City’s Arena Ciudad de Mexico Arena, marking the first AAA show with fans in over a year.
Andrade appeared at Rey de Reyes 2021 event via pre-recorded video to challenge Kenny Omega for the title. AAA confirmed the match on Tuesday at a press conference where Kenny Omega joined via video. Omega said in the video that the belt is going to be around his waist forever and AAA could send their best to take it away from him.
This will be a first time Omega and Andrade will face-off in a ring. Omega won the AAA Mega Championship from Rey Fenix back in October 2019. He has defended the title four times successfully against Jack Evans, Dragon Lee, Sammy Guevara and Laredo Kid. The defenses against Evans and Guevara took place on AEW shows.
This will be Andrade’s third match since leaving WWE and his first match for AAA. El Idolo earlier worked in Mexico for AAA’s rival promotion CMLL before 2015. The Former United States Champion was granted his release from WWE in March this year. He is also booked to wrestle at Federacion Wrestling’s inaugural event on June 19 and will also have a singles match against Alberto El Patron on 31 July.
There are two more matches announced for TripleMania 29. Impact Knockout’s Champion Deonna Purrazzo will face AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Faby Apache in a Winner Takes All match. Psycho Clown will face Super Porky in a Mask vs Hair match.
