The finals of NJPW G1 Climax 33 tournament took place on night 19 on August 13, 2023, from Sumo Hall in Tokyo, Japan, and we were here to post results from the event.

Kazuchika Okada was in the final for the third year in a row and he faced Tetsuya Naito on the opposite side. Naito was looking for this third win in the tournament in his fourth final match. Okada had been unbeaten in G1 Climax finals so far. Did his run continue?

We posted live updates from the final match only which started at 4:30 PM ET based. The undercard was loaded with tag team match matches which continued various storylines and faction wars as usual.

IWGP Champion Sanada teamed up with Just 5 Guys to face House of Torture. Rest of the Bullet Club took on their other adversaries in Tama Tonga, El Phantasmo, Hikuleo and more. LIJ took on United Empire.

OKADA VS NAITO LIVE BLOG

It’s time for the main event after all the undercard matches. Masahiro Chino, 5 time G1 winner comes out to join the Japanese Commentary team. We get a hype video package for Naito and Okada. Naito walks out first to a loud cheers. Okada comes out next to equally loud cheers. Naito takes his sweet time to remove his overcoat. He does stretching to test Okada’s patience. The referee checks them. The bell rings and we are off.

They circle the ring but do not engage for a minute or so. They lock up and Naito backs Okada to the corner. They reset and Naito gets a hammerlock on. Okada gets to his waist before using a drop toe hold to trip Naito. Naito counters it into a side headlock on the mat. Okada gets to his knees slowly but Naito takes him back to the mat. Okada get to the ropes to break. Naito hits some punches before they run the ropes. Naito hits an armdrag and a kick before throwing Okada to the floor. Naito teases a suicide dive but gets into his signature pose. More cheers behind Naito.

Okada gets into the ring but Naito gets to the floor now. Naito does not come in until the referee pushes Okada to a corner. Naito targets Okada’s knee before taking him into a chinlock with his knees digging into his spine. Okada hits back elbows but Naito hits blows to the back. Okada hits a flapjack to finally get some meaningful offense. Okada hits an elbow and a dropkick to the face. They are on the apron and Okada hits a DDT. Naito drops to the floor. Naito has grabbed his face. Okada breaks the countdown before whipping Naito into the barricade.

The referee starts a countdown for Naito as he is down on the floor. Naito beats the countdown at 18. Okada hits another DDT. Okada goes for a pin by putting his boot on Naito’s chest and the referee refuses to count. Naito punches but Okada no-sells them. Okada hits an uppercut. He runs the ropes but Naito ducks him and hits a neckbreaker knee strike. Naito hits forearm shots next. He hits a back elbow to the back of the neck and a dropkick.

Another knee strike to the neck from Naito. Okada blocks a neckbreaker before Naito kicks him away from the corner. He hits a hip toss. Okada rolls to the floor. The referee starts a countdown. Naito goes to the floor and whips Okada into the barricade twice. Naito then hits a neckbreaker with Okada’s spine crashing on the barricade. The referee starts the countdown for Okada after checking on him. Okada wakes up at 11 and drags himself into the ring at 19.

Naito puts on a crucifix lock. Okada gets his leg on the ropes. Okada hits forearm shots after getting up. Naito answers back before Okada drops his neck on his Air Raid Crash neckbreaker. Okada avoids boot in the corner, puts Naito on the top rope and hits him with a dropkick to send him tumbling down to the floor. Naito turns around the whip to send Okada into the barricade once again. Okada hits a tombstone piledriver on the floor.

Back to the ring, Okada hits a German suplex and follows up with a lariat. Okada goes for rainmaker but Naito ducks it. Okada hits him with a dropkick instead. Naito is down. The referee starts a countdown but Okada stops it. He hits some uppercuts next. Naito hits tornado DDT to drop him. Naito hits back elbows to Okada’s neck. Some more elbow shots from Naito. Okada tells him to hit him more. Naito boots his face a few times before more back elbows to the neck. Naito hits a hurricanrana off the top rope next to get a two-count.

Naito puts on Kofi clutch. Okada tries to reverse it with a pin attempt but Naito keeps the hold on. Okada has to get to the ropes to break it. Naito hits a DDT next. Okada gets him up on the shoulders but Naito hits another DDT and follows it with Destino for a near fall. Naito hits a body slam but misses a corkscrew moonsault from the top rope. We have crossed 30 minutes in the match.

Okada hits a dropkick. He misses a short clothesline but hits back elbows. Naito blocks a tombstone. Okada hits a forearm before Naito gets him into an inside cradle for a two-count. He hits a springboard tackle. Okada hits a dropkick and a body slam when they get up again. Okada blocks Destino and slam him into the mat. Naito uses an innovative pin to get a two-count. Quick counters from both men before Naito hits Destino to get a near fall.

Okada counters the Destino with a body slam. Naito ducks The Rainmaker and hits Destino again. He hits Destino one more time to be sure, and gets the pinfall.
