Sammy Guevara Crowned Interim TNT Champ, New Match Added to Dynamite
Sammy Guevara will get busy quickly as the Interim TNT Champion.
Sammy Guevara has become the interim AEW TNT Champion by defeating Dustin Rhodes at AEW Battle of the Belts 2022.
Guevara was originally supposed to challenge TNT Champion Cody Rhodes at Battle of the Belts event. However, Cody had to withdraw from the event due to medical protocols after COVID-19 exposures.
To ensure a title match at the event, AEW then introduced an interim title with Dustin Rhodes fighting Sammy for it. The match opened Battle of the Belts event and Sammy defeated Dustin with a sit-out pin after trading several pin attempts near the end.
After his win, Sammy was quickly confronted by Daniel Garcia and got slapped by him. Guevara replied with a slap to start a brawl. Later, it was announced that Sammy will defend the interim title against Garcia at the Dynamite episode of January 12.
In other results from Battle of the Belts, Ricky Starks defeated Matt Sydal to retain FTW Championship. Dr. Britt Baker DMD got her first singles win over Riho as she retained AEW Women’s World Championship.
