Dragon Lee defeated Dominik Mysterio to win NXT North American Championship at NXT Deadline 2023 event.

Rey Mysterio announced to be in Dragon Lee’s corner as he faced his son Dominik. Before the match, he arrived using crutches and took a place at the commentary table. His appearance seemed to distract Dominik during the match.

After Lee showed off his quickness in the initial stages of the match, Dominik gained the upper hand. Lee regained momentum half way into the match and executed a diving stomp on the champion’s chest while he was hanging from the top rope. Both competitors struggled to return to the ring before the referee’s count.

From that moment onward, Dragon Lee seized control of the match, unleashing a series of impactful moves on Dominik. This onslaught resulted in a close call where Dominik, displaying remarkable ring awareness, grabbed onto the rope, earning praise from Rey Mysterio.

The two opponents continued exchanging close pinfall moments until Dragon Lee finally executed his signature move, the Destino to secure a pinfall win, ultimately being crowning as the new North American Fhampion.

Following the match, Lee approached the commentary table and celebrated his victory with Rey Mysterio. This win marked Lee’s inaugural championship triumph in WWE. Although he had transitioned to SmackDown in October, he made a return to NXT for the NXT Deadline event.

Dominik Mysterio was first set to defend his NXT North American Championship against Wes Lee at NXT Deadline. However, during December 5 episode of WWE NXT, Wes Lee disclosed that he wouldn’t be able to compete due to requiring surgery.

Rey Mysterio subsequently announced that Dragon Lee would step in to challenge Dominik for the title instead.
