CM Punk Returns at AEW Rampage, Will Face Darby Allin at AEW All Out

CM Punk at AEW Rampage Debut

CM Punk has made his long-awaited return to pro-wrestling at AEW Rampage: The First Dance show on 20 August 2021.

The rumors were swirling around for more than a month that CM Punk has agreed on a deal with AEW and will return to pro-wrestling after 7 years. The United Center in Chicago was booked quickly for Punk to make his return in his hometown. Several other programming and booking decisions were also changed.

AEW kept teasing CM Punk’s appearance through some easter eggs with references of Best in the World, Cookie Master and other things. AEW also teased the most anticipated announcement in the company’s history before the show.

Tony Khan has already informed that the show’s format will be very different for tonight. The commentary team announced that the most anticipated moment of AEW history is coming up as soon as the show opened. And it all came true when CM Punk came out of the tunnel.

Punk took his time to take in the response from the crowd. He then jumped into the first row before hugging some fans at the ringside. “The Best in the World” took the mic and said he did not prepare to say anything beforehand since he wanted to say what he would feel from fans’ responses.

This was Punk’s first full-fledged appearance on a wrestling show since WWE Royal Rumble 2014. After that event, Punk no-showed at WWE as he got frustrated with the creative process in the company. On AEW Rampage, Punk said that if he let anyone down by what he did years ago, he wants them to know he wasn’t going to get healthy mentally or physically if he stayed in the place.

He added that he has come back due to the fans, due to the young and talented locker room and due to the scores that he has to settle with a few guys backstage. Punk then called out Darby Allin who made a reference to Best in the World a few weeks back at AEW Dynamite.

Allin & Sting were standing on the top row of the stadium as CM Punk addressed them. Punk acknowledged the daredevil things that Allin has pulled off in AEW and announced that he will face Allin at AEW All Out 2021.

AEW has also released a new shirt for CM Punk on their store. He is also announced for the AEW Dynamite episode of 25 August in Milwaukee.

Keep tuned in for more updates on CM Punk and more AEW news.
