Big E Retains WWE Title Over Lashley, Gets Challenged by Drew McIntyre
Big E retained the WWE Championship title against Bobby Lashley in a steel cage match at WWE RAW episode of September 27.
Big E won the title from Lashley two weeks back on RAW after he cashed in the Money in the Bank contract. Then, Lashley interfered in the Bloodline vs New Day match last week at RAW, leading to a triple threat match between Roman Reigns, Big E and Lashley. Roman won that match by pinning Lashley.
At Extreme Rules, Lashley attacked Big E again during the pre-show along with AJ Styles & Omos. New Day then took on Lashley, AJ & Omos in a tag team match and Big E pinned Lashley again to get the win. After this match, Lashley cut a promo backstage where he called out Big E to give him a title rematch. Big E accepted and WWE announced that the match will open WWE RAW tonight.
The match did open RAW this week. Near the end of the match, Lashley’s former Hurt Business teammates Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander came out to the ringside. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods from New Day came and attacked them, which led to a DQ finish for the title match. As the brawl continued, WWE Official Adam Pearce came out and announced a steel cage match between Big E & Lashley in the main event of the show.
As Big E entered for the main event, Lashley attacked him on the apron and laid him out by slamming him in the barricade, steel steps and ring post. Big E recovered and got the match going, giving a solid challenge to Lashley. He was about to exit the steel cage when Alexander and Benjamin returned to attack him again. New Day once again neutralized that threat.
Lashley thought he had Big E finished with a spear, but the WWE champion kicked out. In the end, it took an Avalanche Big Ending from Big E to get the pin over Lashley.
After the match, Drew McIntyre came out and pointed his sword towards Big E to challenge him. Former WWE Champion himself, Drew McIntyre was barred from challenging for the title until Lashley was the champion.
In RAW Talk, McIntyre reiterated that he is coming after Big E just because he has the WWE title. McIntyre was then asked what will happen if gets drafted to SmackDown. McIntyre replied that he will challenge for Universal Title then.
