AEW Dynamite episode of May 1, 2024, came to Winnipeg, Canada, as the build-up for Double or Nothing 2024 PPV gathered pace. The identity of challengers for AEW World Championship and AEW Women’s Championship were revealed during the show for the next PPV event. Kenny Omega made an appearance while Chris Jericho defended FTW title against Katsuyori Shibata. Check the complete results and updates from the show below.

RESULTS & UPDATES

AEW Dynamite opened Tony Khan appearing on screen. He said that he was not cleared to travel and could not leave Jacksonville. Before he could say more, The Young Bucks cut off his broadcast and said that their contracts were iron-clad and therefore, they could not be fired. They also added that they were in charge in absence of Tony Khan.

A new opening video aired for Dynamite which featured only the members of The Elite- Matthew Jackson, Nicolas Jackson, Kazuchika Okada and Jack Perry.

Swerve Strickland came out ot the ring. He criticized the Elite’s attack on Tony Khan last week. The Young Bucks interrupted him via Titantron to announce his challenger for Double or Nothing. The challenger turned out to be Christian Cage who came out with the Patriarchy – Nick Wayne, Mother Wayne, and Killswitch. Christian caught Swerve by surprise by hitting him with the microphone. Nick Wayne took out Prince Nana. Christian hit Swerve with killswitch before saying that he was doing this because Strickland beat up Nick Wayne last year and he also lost their tag team match at AEW All In.

Adam Copeland(c) defeated Buddy Matthews in a singles match to retain AEW TNT Championship. A good back-and-forth match ended when Copeland blocked GTS from Mathews and hit a spear to get the pinfall.

After the match, Copeland continued to attack Mathews. He went for the Con-Chair-To, but Malakai Black appeared beside him when the lights went off and on. Instead of stopping Copeland, Black encouraged him to hit Mathews. The lights went out again, and Black and Mathews disappeared from the ring.

Samoa Joe defeated Isiah Kassidy in a singles match via pinfall after hitting Muscle Buster.

Skye Blue appeared in a video promo where he called out Willow Nightingale.

Orange Cassidy came out to the ring and announced Chuck Taylor would never wrestle again due to what happened to him in the match against Trent Berreta at Rampage last week. He added that he was hoping to put aside his differences with Trent and be best friends again one day, but that would never happen. Trent Beretta came out to the stage to interrupt him. Cassidy ran to the stage but they were kept separated by security. Kris Statlander tried to calm both of them down. Don Callis also came out and whispered something in Cassidy’s ears and took him to the back.

The Young Bucks were interviewed by Renee Paquette but they said they were looking for their old friend. Since they were not able to find him, it was time for Jack Perry to get some TV time. The Bucks left to let Perry continue with the interview. Perry addressed the attack on Tony Khan by saying that everyone need to make sacrifices, and it was due to Tony’s sacrifice that we were in a new era under The Elite.

Chris Jericho(c) defeated Katsuyori Shibata in a singles match to retain FTW Championship. Shibata was in control in the final minute before Big Bill came out and hit him with a boot. Bill put Shibata through the table with a chokeslam. Jericho then crawled over Shibata to get the pinfall. After the match, Bill told Jericho that he deserved to in the Learning Tree.

Renee Paquette interviewed Willow Nightingale, Kris Statlander and Stokely Hathaway backstage. Willow accepted Skye Blue’s challenge. Stokely went on to criticize The Elite for attacking Tony Khan as he could not go to anyone with his complaints now. Stokely and Statlander were told that they would be banned from ringside from Willow vs Blue match.

Claudio Castagnoli defeated Brian Cage in a singles match. Claudio put Cage in the swing before putting him into the sharpshooter to get a submission.

Rocky Romero was backstage as he challenged Kyle O’Reilly for a match on AEW Rampage.

Serena Deeb defeated Mariah May in a singles match. Deeb had May in a Boston Crab for a while and Toni Storm threw in the towel to stop the match.

Adam Copeland was interviewed by Renee Paquette backstage. Kyle O’Reilly came in and told Copeland that he would have his back against House of Black.

Kenny Omega came out to the ring for the final segment. He talked about suffering from diverticulitis, which was forcing him to retire but he had to come back because he wanted to be in the conversation as one of the greats again. Kenny Omega tells The Young Bucks that he has part of the power in the company too. Kazuchika Okada came out. Omega told him that they could finish their rivalry in AEW if Okada could give him a few months. Jack Perry attacked Omega from behind. Omega fought back and was looking for a V-Trigger on Perry when Okada pulled his leg from the outside. Jack hit him in the stomach with a chair. The Young Bucks came out to check on Omega before they hit an EVP Trigger on Omega. FTR ran out to stop them as the show went off the air.
