AEW Continental Classic 2023: Everything You Need To Know

AEW is set to hold its first-ever Continental Classic tournament from November 22, 2023, to December 30, 2023. It is their own version of NJPW’s G1 Climax tournament. Tony Khan and Bryan Danielson revealed the plans for the tournament during the November 11 episode of Collision. Danielson was announced as the first participant of the tournament.

Format

The tournament will feature 12 participants divided over 2 groups of 6 fighters. These 6 fighters will face each other during the league phase. The top two fighters from each group will fight in the group semifinal on the December 27 episode of Dynamite. The winners of these semifinals will face off in the final on December 30 at AEW World’s End PPV event.

Eddie Kingston, NJPW Strong Openweight Champion, and ROH World Champion, put his titles on the line in the tournament. Additionally, AEW has also announced a new Continental title for this tournament. So, the winner of the tournament will be crowned the first AEW Triple Crown Champion and will defend these 3 titles across NJPW, ROH, AEW and other promotions.

During the league phase, fighters will get 3 points for each win. A loss gets you 0 point from that match. A draw will mean that both fighters will get 1 point each. Additionally, there will be no one allowed at ringside during the matches, and no one will be allowed to interfere in the matches.
