The event features a special cage match enclosing two rings and rules similar to that of a No Holds Barred match, but the match ends only via knockout or submission. The participants also enter the cage one at a time after the interval of 3 minutes. The match only starts officially once all the participants are inside the ring.
Blackpool Combat Club vs The Golden Elite – Blood & Guts Match
The intense rivalry between the Elite and Blackpool Combat Club started on April 5, 2023 episode of AEW Dynamite after BCC attacked The Young Bucks backstage. Hangman Adam Page was hit with a screwdriver and was out of action for a few weeks before he returned to join The Elite. Don Callis and Konosuke Takeshita turned on The Elite on a Dynamite episode early in May. The rivalry led to an Anarchy in the Arena match between the two sides at Double or Nothing 2023 event which BCC won after some help from Takeshita.
Page & the Young Bucks defeated Moxley, Castagnoli & Yuta in a trios match in early June. As the rivalry continued, a 5-on-5 match was announced between the two sides at Forbidden Door 2023 PPV. Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson were busy in different matches at Forbidden Door. Hence, Shota Umino and Takeshita joined BCC for the show while Eddie Kingston and Tomohiro Ishii came in to join The Elite. The Elite won the match at Forbidden Door after Ishii pinned Yuta.
Moxley defeated Ishii on June 29 Dynamite episode. After that, he challenged The Elite for a Blood & Guts match. Bryan Danielson was ruled out of action due to a broken arm injury that he suffered at Forbidden Door. Umino, Kingston and Ishii were in Japan for G1 Climax 33 tournament. Hence, both sides were short one man each. PAC introduced himself as the fifth member for BCC when he attacked Omega on July 12 Dynamite episode. Omega then presented a video package which announced that Kota Ibushi would debut at AEW to team up with The Elite in the Blood & Guts match.
Hook(c) vs Jack Perry – FTW Championship
Jack Perry and FTW Champion Hook came together on several occasions as a tag team. They reunited once again after Double or Nothing, with Perry saying he would also get a title for himself. Perry faced IWGP World Champion Sanada at Forbidden Door 2023 event, but was unable to win the title. After the match, Perry turned on Hook.
Perry cut a promo on Dynamite July 28 episode criticising Hook and claiming that he was carrying their tag team. Perry ran away when Hook came out to attack him, and left the arena after getting into his car. On July 5 Dynamite, Hook tried to attack Perry in the parking lot, but Perry ran away once again. Perry refused to get out of the card on July 12 episode of Dynamite due to “safety concerns” and challenged Hook to face him in the ring instead. Hook attacked him, but Perry ran away once again. On Rampage July 14 episode, Hook announced that he would put his title on the line at Blood & Guts.
Adam Cole & MJF vs Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia – Blind Tag Team Eliminator Tournament Final
AEW announced a blind eliminator tag team tournament which will feature teams drawn randomly by a lottery. Adam Cole & MJF, who were feuding over MJF’s AEW World Championship, were the first team to be paired. Over the course of the tournament, MJF and Cole increased their bonding and were able to beat The Butcher & Matt Menard in the first round, and Big Bill & Brian Cage in the semifinals.
On the other side, Jericho Appreciation Society’s Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia were teamed up by luck. They defeated Matt Hardy and Jeff Jarrett in the first round before beating Daniel Garcia & Orange Cassidy in the semifinals. The winner of this match would get a shot at AEW Tag Team Champions FTR on Collision July 29 episode.
