On May 14, 2023, Bellator announced the return to Dublin, Ireland with Bellator 299 to take place on September 23, 2023. This is Bellator’s 10th event in Ireland and the second one in 2023.

The middleweight title fight between Johnny Eblen and Fabian Edwards was announced as the headliner. This will be Eblen’s second title defense. Fabian Edwards has the chance to join his brother UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards as a World Champion.

Khasan Magomedsharipov vs Martin McDonough bout was earlier announced, but McDonough pulled out.

During the weigh-in event for the show, Piotr Niedzielski missed weight for his featherweight bout by 1.8 lbs. The bout was turned into a catchweight bout. A light heavyweight bout between Luke Trainer and Laurynas Urboanvicius was cancelled before the weigh-in.
